stay in flash of the daily:

2nd of June, 2012

Kortrijk

Saturday. I am waiting for tomorrow, the first Sunday of June, to come. It is Fathers Day in Lithuania then. A father in Belgium is a Belgian father; he is not a rushing father: Fathers Day of Belgian father is on the second Sunday of June. However, every father around the world is the father and they all lovedrinking beer! I hope they love their sons and daughters as well, thats why I am going to call my dad, the best father in the world, turn on the webcam on Skype, to give a wave by my right hand and to say dad, I love you. I never say this to him. But he is worth. Saturday How different weekends can be.
It is exactly 7 days after the festival Sinksen Kortrijk has started, happily. Unhappily, exactly 4 days it is finished. Three days of unbelievably intensive action, almost one week to bring yourself back to life after it and you result with these thoughts in your head this Saturday: Kortrijk, my little beloved town, you are: the capital of colorful pants; the place where alternative is classics and classics are alternative; the kingdom of toys and glass; the land where the rain makes us crazy, but the sun makes us crazy even more. When I was doing the research two weeks ago asking Kortrijkians how do they think Kortrijk could inspire the world, many of you answered by the weird colorful pants. Then I considered: 1) is it inspiring? I dont know; I never see enough people in streets of Kortrijk to estimate this; 2) is it weird? I dont know either; nowadays even opera is both the shame and the honor at the same time. However, I could experience both people and opera during days of Sinksen. You were right: no drugs can make see all 256 RGB colors moving so fast as Sinksen made. Seemed the whole world population of 7 billion people dug out the brightest pieces of their wardrobez and putted it on to come to Kortrijk. Even the Jurat of Culture of Kortrijk got on the stage to tell

her opening speech dressed all in skyblue; that is a great opinion what the culture is about today, it is all about the sky (I heard two Belgians talking today that the Minister of Culture of Belgium wants to sign a law to put drummers into a Plexiglas as festivals are too laud in Belgium)! Coming back to outfit, you like blue or not, it would have been a slap in the face to be dressed in grey on Sinksens weekend.

ers. And players: there was a crowd of them even matching orchestras of big cities. Amazingly, they all were dressed in black. No colors (only choristers had small red kerchiefs on their necks). So they all wererebels! And I was so happy to listen to Puccinis Madame Butterfly being one rebel of them with my funeral outfit! The next evening crazy guys called Decap Beat Machine tried to burn the organs on the stage. Although organs were not burnt, many many calories were burnt by dancing Kortrijkians.

So dressed for a funeral (as wearing a black dress with black tights and The Flea Merket However, taking into account how There are more things to burn It is as asked by Belgian guy why am I a much useless glassy stuff I have seen old stuff in out closets. People who widow today?) I participated in the during walking in the flea market, I did not want to burn it (we all tend to opening event. The wind was blowcould easily expect a mine of glass collect it and psychological paradox is ing not only long flaps of a leader of being located somewhere under KOTs that the less useful stuff is, the more the Symphony Orchestra of Kortrijk, of people. Be ready to see the same its a pity to through it away; we do but also sheets of the notes of playglasses next year on Sinksen2013: the have the same save it for the future only thing that will be changed then generations thinking in Lithuania a seller. also, do not worry), could just bring that stuff outside and try to sell it. Belgian Weather And I realize once again it is hard I am passing occupied streets: some for the Mother Nature to satisfy the people still have a bit of enthusiasm expectations of Kortrijkians: if it is to make jokes offering to sell a guy, a rain, Kortrijkians are crying they some are fried in the sun and are want the sun to shine; Kortrijkians are waiting for long and finally they get the sun (Kortrijk was an oven with more than +25 C during all three days of Sinksen despite the fact it is rather a watering pot); but then Kortrijkians are confused again and they want. THE WINTER to come! You could event find the snow in one of the pubs on Stationplein.

suffering, however, they do not pack and do not go home. When I see a colorful (colorful not to keep up with a fashion of Kortrijk, but colorful as I like it) backpack just for 1, I ask a girl who is selling it if it belongs to her. When she shakes her head approvingly, I buy it and keep walking happily. Soon we pass the box of bras and underpants! I take a look to the seller from the distance: that is what I mean by calling Kortrijkian a brave citizen! If sell everything, then sell everything. No matter the Batman made of glass or the bra it is.

Dont wait for SinksenKortrijk2013 to come (good things go by as a flash: you wait for them, you desire, dream, plan, you think, wish, expect to see, to hear, to experience, you keep waiting, waiting, wait, when one day it comes; then it happens; and you wake up in the next morning again realizing that everything is over). Dont wait for the Fathers Day either to take your dads hand, to go to Leie and have a beer (or a wine, or a cake, or else as they all are so unique!) on the riverside. Things happen in flash. It is not worth waiting. Enjoy being! Now. I will call to my dad today. And I am leaving to the riverside right now
