Joseph Bailey
The suspected gunman police believe was involved in the armed robbery of Broadway Party Store alongside another suspect in early April was arrested last week after an extended foot chase. Joseph Bailey, 20, was arrested May 25 and has been charged with three felonies, including armed robbery, possession of a short barrel shotgun and obstructing a police
officer. He is being held in Washtenaw County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond, according to Ann Arbor police. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary exam at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Lt. Renee Bush said the robbery he has believed to have been involved in occurred a few minutes after 10 p.m. April 9. Two men entered the store at 1027 Broadway St. and one of them held the clerk at gunpoint, she said. They stole an undisclosed amount of cash and some liquor before fleeing in an unknown direction. Police received several tips involving the case and detectives followed up on each of them, Bush said, which led to Bailey being identified as a possible suspect.
Detectives conducted a search warrant at his residence and recovered evidence there from the armed robbery. Bailey was arrested after an extended foot chase Friday by patrol officers and detective personnel at I-94 and Ann Arbor-Saline Road. Investigators are pursuing addition leads on the second suspect of the armed robbery, who police are still searching for. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect can call Detective Chris Fitzpatrick at 734-794-6930 at ext. 49324 or the anonymous tip line at 734-794-6939.
