MODE, MEDIAN AND MEAN A. MODE. MODE is a value or item that occurs most frequently in a set of data. MOD ialah suatu nilai atau sesuatu data yang berlaku paling kerap dalam satu-satu set data. (i) Determine The Mode Of (a) Set Of Data (b) Data Given In Frequency Tables. EXAMPLE. Lets say you have 5 numbers for instance, 2, 3, 3, 4, 6. Which numbers occurs most frequently. It is 3 (which occur twice as others once). So, 3 is the mode for the set of data. ACTIVITY 1 (DO IT YOURSELF) (Fill in the boxes/blanks with the correct number) There are 2 six. Others only 1 one. two 4kg. Others only

A set of data is given : 3kg, 4kg, 2kg, 4kg, 7kg, 8kg. Which number is the mode for the set of data ? Mode = _____kg ACTIVITY 2 (DO IT YOURSELF) (Fill in the blanks and box with the correct number) A set of data is given : 6kg, 6kg, 7kg, 7kg 6kg, 8kg, 5kg, 5kg. There are ____2____ 5kg There are _________ 6kg There are _________ 7kg There are _________ 8kg So, the mode is _______ Which item occured most frequently ? Answer: kg

B. MEDIAN MEDIAN the middle value of a set of data that has been arranged in an ascending or a descending order. MEDIAN nilai yang berada di tengah dalam satu set data yang disusun secara menaik atau menurun. (i) Determine The Median Of (a) Set Of Data (b) Data Given In Frequency Tables. EXAMPLE 1 (if the number of item is odd)

There are five integers for instance 7, 5, 4, 9, and 7. Which is the median of the data ? Firstly arrange the integers in ascending or descending order.

The middle value So, 7 is the median of the set of data. ACTIVITY 1 (DO IT YOURSELF) (Fill in the spaces and blank with the correct number) Below are seven items of weight. Determine the median of the data. 16k g 12k g 13k g 17k g 16k g 15k g 12k g

Arrange the weight above in ascending or descending order.

So, _____kg is the median of the set of data.

ACTIVITY 2 (DO IT YOURSELF) Determine the median of the following integers : 23, 27, 20, 19, 25, 30, 17 Answer : (circle the correct answer) 17 19 20 23 25 27 30

ACTIVITY 3 (DO IT YOURSELF) (Fill in the boxes with the correct number) Determine the median of the following : 2, 5, 6, 3, 9, 12, 13. Answer : (arrange the item in ascending order and shade the correct answer)

EXAMPLE 2 (if the number of item is even)

RM 15

RM 10

RM 25

RM 35

RM 50

RM 45

Which one is the median of the data ? Firstly, arrange the item in ascending or descending order.

RM 10

RM 15

RM 25

RM 35

RM 45

RM 50

Due to the number of item is even, the middle item is here i.e between these two items. How to get the median value ? So, we take the average value of these two items.

So, the median of this set of data is RM 30. ACTIVITY 4 (DO IT YOURSELF) (Fill in the boxes and blanks with the correct number) Determine the median for the following data : 50, 100, 70, 120, 90, 40

WAJA Mathematics PMR

Firstly, arrange the data in ascending / descending order : 40, 50, 70, 90, 100, 120

The middle value is placed between these two numbers. So, take the average of these two numbers as the median. + The average of these two numbers (median) = 2 So, _______ is the median of the set of data. ACTIVITY 5 (DO IT YOURSELF) (Fill in the boxes with the correct number) Determine the median of the following weights : 4kg, 6kg, 12kg, 8kg. Answer : (calculate the median) Arrange the weight in ascending order. = _________

Calculate the average here + 2 The median is =

C. MEAN MEAN the sum of all the values of data divided by the number of data. MIN jumlah semua nilai data dibahagi dengan bilangan data. (i) Determine The Mean Of (a) Set Of Data (b) Data Given In Frequency Tables. EXAMPLE. Given that the weight of 3 boxes are 5kg, 6kg, 10kg. Calculate the mean of weight of the boxes. The sum of the weight = 5 + 6 + 10 The number of data The mean = = 3 boxes

5 + 6 + 10 21 = 7 kg. = 3 3
