The Reds are in first place for the 15th straight day
TONIGHT'S GAME: Is Game 1 of a 3-game series vs Brian Britten's Tigers and Game 4 (1-2) of a 10-day, 9-game
homestand that included a 1-2 series loss vs the Pirates and features a 3-game series vs the American League
Central rival Indians that begins Tuesday.
DOT, DOT, DOT....: Shirley Larkin - mother of Byron, Stephen, Michael, Mary and Cooperstown Hall of Fame
2012 inductee Barry - will throw out one of tonight's ceremonial first pitches...Shirley was scheduled to make her
pitch on 5/13 as part of the Reds' Mother's Day and P&G's Sponsor of Moms celebrations, but the ceremonial
first toss and start of that game was delayed 3 hours and 36 minutes by rain...tonight's 15-minute Rozzi's Famous
Fireworks show presented by KOI Auto Parts will begin approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the
game...the "Detroit Rock City" soundtrack will feature rock and roll music from the Motor City.
CANADA'S BEST: Joey Votto has a 13-game hitting streak (25-46, .543, 7 2b, 2hr, 7rbi), the longest by a Reds
batter this season and 1g shy of his career high (14g, 6/27-7/11, 2009)...it equals Brandon Phillips' club high of last
season (13g, 8/17-8/30)...no Reds batter has produced a hitting streak longer than 13g since Phillips put together a
15-game hitting streak from 5/28-6/12, 2010.
STREAKING: The Reds have won 12 of their last 18g and in that span turned a 2.5-game deficit into a 2.0-game
lead...last Sat's 3.5-game lead was the Reds' biggest since they won the 2010 National League Central by 5.0g
over the Cardinals...the Reds went 9-3-3 in their previous 15 series (2-1 at Chi, 2-1 vs SF, 2-1 vs Hou, 1-1 vs Chi,
2-1 at Pit, 2-1 at Mil, 1-2 vs Wsh, 1-1 at Atl, 1-1 at NYM, 2-1 at NYY, 4-0 vs Atl, 2-1 vs Col, 1-2 at Pit, 2-1 at Hou,
1-2 vs Pit).
PITCH, HIT & RUN: Tomorrow morning at Great American Ball Park, 24 kids ages 7-14 will participate in the
Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run local championship...the Top 3 scores in each age and gender
group out of the 30 teams' local championships will advance to the national finals during MLB All-Star Week in
Kansas City...more than 685,000 kids participate in the Official Youth Skills Competition of Major League Baseball,
now in its 16th year...more information about the program is available online at www.MLB.com/PHR.
START ME UP: The through first 56g of the season the Reds have used only 5 starting pitchers (Bronson Arroyo,
Homer Bailey, Johnny Cueto, Mat Latos, Mike Leake)...is the Reds' longest such streak to open a season since
1992, when in the 80th game of that schedule (7/6 at Cubs) Keith Brown became the staff's sixth starting pitcher
behind Jose Rijo, Tom Browing, Tim Belcher, Greg Swindell and Chris Hammond...the Marlins, Cardinals and
Mariners are the only other teams this season to use only 5 starting pitchers...most recently for the Reds, through
the first 48g of 2010 they used 5 starting pitchers (Aaron Harang, Cueto, Arroyo, Bailey, Leake) before Sam
LeCure took the mound on 5/28 in his Major League debut.
ALMOST PERFECT: In last night's 5-4 loss vs Pit, in his 25th appearance Aroldis Chapman allowed his first earned
run of the season when Clint Barmes and Michael McKenry led off the 10th inning with back-to-back doubles....
his 24 apps without an earned run to begin the season is a franchise record and the Major Leagues' longest such
streak since Will Ohman began the 2010 campaign with 25 apps before he allowed an earned run...his 29.0 innings
pitched without an earned run allowed until last night were the most by any pitcher in the Major Leagues...last night's
outing also snapped his club-record streak of 8 consecutive apps in which he pitched at least 1.0 inning without
allowing a hit (Danny Graves, 7g, April 2001).
PLAYING SMALL: At least 1 home run has been hit in each of the last 53g at Great American Ball Park, dating
back to a homerless game vs the Giants on 7/29/11...it is the longest active ballpark homer streak in the Major
Leagues and the longest home run streak in GABP history (41g, 8/9/07-5/5/08, courtesy Elias Sports Bureau)...there
have been 60 homerless contests in the ballpark's 758 games...only twice in the park's 10-year existence has
there been a streak of 2 straight games without a home run by either team (8/6-8/7, 2005 vs Fla & 4/5-4/6, 2011
vs Hou)...there never has been a 3-game homerless stretch at GABP...earlier this season, there were 29 home
runs hit during the homestand from 5/21-5/27 (Reds 17, Braves 6, Rockies 6), a new GABP record for HR during a
homestand of 7 games or fewer and including a single-game record 9 homers in the finale (Col 5, Cin 4).
HOFers: Former Reds All-Star Barry Larkin and Cubs great Ron Santo will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall
of Fame during ceremonies on Sun, 7/22 in Cooperstown...modern first basemen Sean Casey and Dan Driessen,
along with 19th Century first baseman John Reilly, on Sat, 6/23 will be inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame.
REDS AT GREAT AMERICAN BALL PARK (16-11, .593): In 10 seasons and 758 games at GABP the Reds are
389-368-1 (.513)...the Reds are 1-2 on this homestand (1-2 vs Pit, 0-0 vs Det, 3g vs Cle)...went 5-3-1 in their previous
9 home series (2-1 vs Mia, 1-2 vs StL, 2-1 vs SF, 2-1 vs Hou, 1-1 vs Chi, 1-2 vs Wsh, 4-0 vs Atl, 2-1 vs Col, 1-2 vs
Pit) and 2-1-1 on their previous 4 homestands (3-3, 5-3, 1-2, 6-1).
IN THE STANDINGS (65): The Reds have spent the following days alone or tied at each position in the National
League Central Division standings: FIRST - 16, SECOND - 36, THIRD - 5, FOURTH - 7, FIFTH - 1 (4/10), SIXTH - 0...
have spent 35 days above, 11 days at and 18 days below .500.
REDS vs TIGERS: This weekend the American League Central's Tigers will make their third visit to Cincinnati and
their first appearance at Great American Ball Park...Reds are 7-8 all-time vs Det, including 1-2 in 2006 at Comerica
Park, 1-2 in 2001 at Cinergy Field, 1-2 in 2000 at Comerica Park, 1-2 in 1999 at Cinergy Field and 3-0 in 1998 at Tiger
Stadium...the Reds beat the Tigers, 4 games to 3, in the 1940 World Series.
WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS: 1919, 1940, 1975, 1976, 1990 NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS: 1919, 1939, 1940, 1961, 1970, 1972, 1975, 1976, 1990

54 AROLDIS CHAPMAN, lhp
25g, 4-1-6, 0.30
Went to spring training battling for a spot in the starting rotation but has spent the
season in the bullpen after RHP Ryan Madson and RHP Nick Masset were disabled
prior to Opening Day...LHP Bill Bray joined them on the DL in April...in last night's 5-4
loss vs Pit, his 25th appearance, allowed his first earned run on back-to-back doubles
by Clint Barmes and Michael McKenry leading off the 10th inning...was his first earned
run allowed since 9/10/2011 at Col (29g, 35ip, 13bb, 58k)...last night's outing snapped
his club-record streak of 8 consecutive apps in which he pitched at least 1.0 inning
without allowing a hit (Danny Graves, 7g, April 2001)...his 24 apps without an earned
run to begin the season is a franchise record (John Hudek, 18g, 1998) and was the
Major Leagues' longest such streak since Will Ohman began the 2010 campaign with
25 apps before he allowed an earned run...his 29.0 innings pitched without an earned
run allowed were the most by any pitcher in the Major Leagues...in his last 8 apps
recorded a victory, loss and 6 saves...entered this season with 1 Major League save
(7/6/11 at StL, 9-8 win in 13 innings)...has recorded at least 1 strikeout in all 25 apps
and 19 times produced at least 2k...according to Elias, the Major League record for
consecutive relief apps with at least 1 strikeout is 39 by Bruce Sutter for the Cubs in
1977...5 times this season pitched on consecutive days, most recently the last 2 days...
only once in his career has he pitched 3 days in a row (9/9-9/11, 2010).
