Holy Fathers Prayer Intention for June 2012 Each month, Pope Benedict chooses two prayer intentions, one for the concerns of the whole church and one for missionaries. We are invited to join the Holy Father in praying for these intentions. General Intention: That believers may recognize in the Eucharist the living presence of the Risen One who accompanies them in daily life. Missionary Intention: That Christians in Europe may rediscover their true identity and participate with greater enthusiasm in the proclamation of the Gospel.

Pro-Life Quote from National Right to Life As we enter ever more fully into the brave new world of creating the children of our choosing, we need to look at the consequences of these actions: The pricey manufacture of custom kids [by genetic enhancement] would in fact undermine the value and dignity of human life by reducing these children to customized products like cars or computers. Rather than surprise and appreciation for the uniqueness and mystery of each individual, custom made children would be judged by how they conform to preset specifications. (Marilyn Coors, Ph.D., Respect Life Program, 2005-6) Attention all ladies: The Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) in the HiLine Region will be holding a get together on Wednesday, June 13th at the Duck Inn in Havre starting at 6:30 PM. This meeting is in lieu of a spring conference dinner is on your own at a cost of $22. Please RSVP to Dolores Noffsinger at 406.265.6055 in Havre ASAP. MARK YOUR CALENDARS!! The Great Falls Billings DCCW will be holding their annual fall conference in MALTA, ON SEPTEMBER 14TH & 15TH, 2012. Tentative plans are to start the conference with mass at 10AM on Friday with the official beginning at 11AM. Plans are being finalized with Sister Helena Burns to share the focus of the conference, celebrating your feminine side of Christ. More information on Sr. Helena can be found at www.pauline.org There will also be several workshops pertaining to new commissions of Spirituality, Leadership and Service. Details are still being finalized but its looking like a wonderful local opportunity for enlightenment and enjoyable time with catholic women from around Montana.

Stewardship Thought: Todays Scripture passages focus on the old and new covenants. In Exodus, Moses and the ancient Israelites seal a covenant with God through the blood of sacrificial animals. St. Paul contrasts Old Testament sacrifices with the new covenant sealed in the Blood of Christ. In the Gospel, St. Mark describes Jesus institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper, which formed the new covenant with His disciples, a covenant that continues today. As Christian stewards, we acknowledge Christs true presence in the consecrated Eucharist. In the regular partaking of this ultimate gift, we find strength to live lives that are holy, and out of gratitude, to return our gifts of time, talent, and treasure to God through our parish communion and those in need. Development Thought: Do you pay income tax in Montana? If so, you should know about a generous incentive available to you for supporting our parish or our diocese. It is called the Montana Endowment Tax Credit and is an amazing 40% tax credit made possible by giving to a qualified endowment fund for our parish or any of the endowments at the Catholic Foundation of Eastern Montana (such as the Seminarian Education Endowment). Please note: This tax credit is only assured through 2012 and 2013. To take advantage of it, speak to your tax preparer or contact Judy at the Office of Stewardship and Development at 800-332-9998. You may be able to make a beautiful gift to support our Catholic faith community and receive multiple benefits in return!
In October of 2005, Pope Benedict XVI met with a group of children who had just received their First Holy Communion. Some of the children were able to ask the Pope questions. By reflecting on the Holy Fathers answers, we can join these children in growing in our faith. Dear Pope, can you explain to us what Jesus meant when he said to the people who were following him: "I am the bread of life?" First of all, perhaps we should explain clearly what bread is. Today, we have a refined cuisine, rich in very different foods, but in simpler situations bread is the basic source of nourishment; and when Jesus called himself the bread of life, the bread is, shall we say, the initial, an abbreviation that stands for all nourishment. And as we need to nourish our bodies in order to live, so we also need to nourish our spirits, our souls and our wills. As human persons, we do not only have bodies but also souls; we are thinking beings with minds and wills. We must also nourish our spirits and our souls, so that they can develop and truly attain their fulfillment. And therefore, if Jesus says: "I am the bread of life", it means that Jesus himself is the nourishment we need for our soul, for our inner self, because the soul also needs food. And technical things do not suffice, although they are so important. We really need God's friendship, which helps us to make the right decisions. We need to mature as human beings. In other words: Jesus nourishes us so that we can truly become mature people and our lives become good.
