Smashing Has an Edge over the others By Racing Correspondent

A real cracker of a race is likely to be witnessed in The Karnataka Cup (grade III), the feature in an enthralling card of nine events framed for Sunday's action at Bangalore. It is a mile event in which, horses aged four years old and over, will compete on specified terms. Some of the finest horses in training in the country have accepted to participate in this race. After a dismal show in the Indian 1000 Guineas, Pesi Shroff's Smashing came into her own to claim the Indian Oaks. She was unlucky to run into In The Spotlight thereafter. Smashing settled for the second spot behind the Champion Filly in The Indian Derby as well as in The Turf Invitation Cup. Despite her brilliant performances, Smashing is well suited by the terms of Sunday's race. She has been sharpened on the training track, as well as in a mock a few days ago. Smashing gets the nod ahead of her stablemate Cardinal and Southern Bay. Cardinal showed his aptitude for this trip by winning The Super Mile at Bangalore. He is blessed with a lot of speed, which should enable him to run a big race in the day's feature. The only draw-back could be the top weight that has been assigned to him. After winning a number of Classics at Mysore, Bangalore and Hyderabad, Ganapathy's Southern Bay came under a cloud during the Invitation Weekend. She was the only one who had beaten In The Spotlight at Mysore. Even though she was a little under the weather, she ran in the big race and ended a little more than three lengths behind Smashing in third place. She has to make up that gap in order to finish ahead of Smashing on Sunday. Dhariwal trained Panamera was a costly failure earlier this season, when she had failed to collar a runaway Sunday Storm near the winning post. Based on her last year form, she had been installed as an odds-on choice of the punters. The fact that she was re-appearing after a longish gap that day, did not stop them from going nap on the filly. It was felt that a mild setback after reaching Kolkata to have a tilt at the local Classics, was the reason for her absence from a race track. Panamera had given all round satisfaction on the training track and signalled her return to prime form. However, it did not pan out as expected. She took her time to warm up and found the seven furlong trip a bit short for her liking. Panamera tackles horses of her own age group over a mile on Sunday, and the extra furlong should suit her style of running. She is considered as the day's best betting proposition.

1. ALL CLEAR has moved to a new trainer, can run well as the field is weak. NEXT MOVE is working impressively but purely from breeding point of view the trip is sharp. OUR LOVE may place based on last run. BIG SECRET was pulled last time and can show out irrespective of the weak rider. BENEDICT should open the account for the last season champion trainer. BENEDICT-NEXT MOVE-ALL CLEAR.

2. CARDUCCI is well bred full brother to TANZANITE and has shown out in works, can win if odds are not cramped. FIRESTORM has a lot to do to win. PACK UR BAGS has been tracking sincerely. SEBRIGHT is ordinarily bred who is working fit. CARDUCCI-PACK UR BAGS-FIRE STORM. 3. VEGA won well and has to defy the penalty with this good rider. THEJAGUAR has not been able to deliver but the rider keeps repeating. TAYLOR MADE runs after a long break, has a handicap chance. SAMOVAR is bred poorly, failed miserably last time as the younger brother SAMS PRIDE yesterday. ROYAL MUSIC can win if tried by the canny trainer. ROYAL MUSIC-TAYLOR MADE-VEGA. 4. RESURGENT who is from a black type dam has worked fine. SMITHSONITE has a rookie riding in a maiden race, the trainer is waiting for some rider to fly in soon or he may run out of options. ACTIVE GREY was handled tenderly last time, the rider is struggling to push through his horses like he used to succeed before. RATHAM is bred in purple and can shock. SUPREME has not tracked much but can win if kept fit. SUPREME-SMITHSONITE-ACTIVE GREY. 5. HOT STUFF looks in form. SUMMER SUN has come down to striking level and the tracks are good. COWBOY CAL has a chance to place. EASTERN SUMMIT is maintaining form but why choose a bad jockey. RUSTY will try to place again. SUMMER SUN-HOT STUFF-EASTERN SUMMIT.

6. CARDINAL and SMASHING have been prepared for the big race, both can score once decided upon by the connections, the trainer is known for his doosras in big events. SOUTHERN BAY looks under prepared. UNLEASHED is tracking well. Looks tough for BOLD POLICE in this weather, last run was backward. SILKEN TOUCH is a sprinter but has breeding to get this trip also. SMASHING-CARDINAL-SILKEN TOUCH.

7. FAR FROM OVER has put in some nice work outs. PANAMERA was backed well but could not get up to the task, deserves a second chance. DANCERELLA should do well. ARABIAN GOLD has been given a soft race, will fight out now. RADICAL ATTRACTION is looking well. PANAMERA-ARABIAN GOLD-RADICAL ATTRACTION. 8. MONTPLIER is a well bred who is in good health. SHIVALIK HERO has a solid back ground, can beat this lot with ease, the worry is the lack of sparkle in works. MEGHALAYA won warding off. OWN ASSET was hard pressed to win as a favorite. STELLAR AMBITION is working very well. SHIVALIK HERO-MONTPLIER-STELLAR AMBITION. 9. SUPER SPECTACLE needs more distance. NECTAR CRON has a weak field to beat, last run was easy. Race 2: Carducci, is running for the first time and odds are not right will have to be a very good horse but trackwork is average hence best to leave alone.Fire Storm, has a benifit of a run and tracking well and should be the one to beat. Summer Break, and Pack Ur Bags, have merit too.

Race 3: A very open race with many chances best to avoid or look for value.Horses 1-2-3-5-6-8-910 all have a fair chance if the intent is there.Its My Party , and Purple Glow , both represent value. Both horses have a positive change in jockey and equipment, Both horses perform better on the wet track and if intent is there which is very likely they will be the ones to beat. Looking at the way Ramu,s horses are ridden lately I am not confident on him but if I am wrong then ???

Race 4: Active Grey, has a benefit of a easy run and should be the one to beat. Smithsonite, and First Timers Resurgent, and Ratham, are tracking very well and should be involved in the finish. Make note of Ratham, can upset or place at good odds. Tips:4)Active Grey, 1)Resurgent, Upset:10) Ratham,

Race 5: A very Open race Eastern Summit, won very well last time and will improve with distance jockey is the ?? however the horse is vastly improved animal. Hot Stuff, who has won a VB race has finished second best after that so best to avoid in this company horse has improved but difficult to win here.Cowboy Cal, is not placed well against the former hence avoidable. The connections of Rusty, have opted to run him in a higher class to take advantage of the handicap which is a good indicator once again jockey is a worry but he will run a good race and should be in the top 3. Make note of a possible Gamble on Summer Sun, here, was given a easy run first up now positive change of jockey and equipment are clear indicators of intent keep in mind the horse won 2 races in a row last summer beating Chul Bul Pandey (rated 76 now) and then Sovetskaya ( Now Rated 92) says a lot about this horses hidden form and its only a matter of time that he will be tried and today seems to be the day keep in mind its a gambeling connection hence watch the market and decide.. Race 6: In my Opinion Cardinal, is the best Miler in the country and his final acceleration and the short straight will be at his advantage today, taking nothing away from Smashing, but the wide draw puts her to a disadvantage and B Prakash will take full advantage of it. With a unlikely Upset in sight horses 4-6-8-10 will be trying their luck.Forever Glory, can sneak in a place. Tips: 1) Cardinal, 2) Smashing, Upset: 10) Forever Glory,(place)

Race 7: Radical Attraction, and Panamera, should fight this out Former is a better animal and is the one to beat. Far From Over, is the joker in the pack is a different class animal and if there is a Upset here is one. Tips:8) Radical Attraction, Upset: Far From Over,(note)

Race 8: The entries of horses 5-6-7-9-13 in this race has wrecked the way the race could be run as even a Fool would know that they are not on job. This stupid practice will disadvantage genuine contenders due to the field the tricky Bangalore track. Such practice is a danger for all and its best to leave the race. Genuine contenders and fancied runner have all been drawn wide and is going to create havoc as they try and position themselves.I am focusing on horses with a decent draw and the shortlisted ones are.Stellar Ambition,Touching The Town,Dark Avenger, and Union Jack, the first named has all in his favor today and is the one to beat at this handicap. The second and third named can upset the second named was considered a classic potential and the third named has a good handicap.From the rest of the runners Shivalik Hero, deserves a mention and will be right there. Its best to watch this race of have a small ew flutter on longshots my money is on 1-11 ew. Tips: 14) Stellar Ambition, Shivalik Hero, Upset: 11) Dark Avenger,

TIN TIN
1st: A glance at the night odds shows 3 horses namely Next Move, Our Love and Benedict in the odds. Nothing great in them that they warrant a bet. I would prefer to skip all 3 however good they are. Trainer A Caddy has 3 horses and has changed shoes on all three. Apart from the favourite Next Move who can win I won't be surprised incase it faulter any the eh other two places at longer odds. Cash The Cheque could be the one. However, if I were to have a bet it would be a small one on All Clear. Choice: All Clear E/w. Cash The Cheque Place. (These bets in the hope the odds on the fancied 3 drift and nothing looks positve) Incase any of the 3 get backed at race time it should be won by any one. Next Move is the best purely on blood lines. 2nd Race: Carducci at odds of half money at night is not my cup of tea. i would rather chance my luck on Fire Storm for win and Carducci shp. Fire Storm is bred purely but has had a run recently. However if I were to have a small bet for place I would take a chance on Summer Break and Sbright for place. Choice: Fire Storm E/w. Summer Break/Sebright Place. 3rd Race: A poor race as most horses look un genuine. A small chance for place on It's My Party and Taylor Made. 4th Race: Active Grey is the horse to beat. 5th Race: Rusty is my choice here even though the horse runs on promotion. Easter Summit should place. 6th Race: A nice race to watch the top 3 fighting it out. Incase any of them faulter unleashed or Bold Police can hope to place. 7th Race: I would go with Radical Attraction for place. Can upset. 8th Race: Shivalik Hero is my fancy here. Not sure why it had such a poor mock race and finished last. Touching The Town is the upset if any. 9th Race: Trilion Win is my day's best. All the best.

Horses & Races

1. A class VB race to start off the proceedings . Except for horses 6 and 9 the rest are all linked . These trainers keep transferring horses amongst themselves as and when required. These multiple entries tends to divert the betting during race time.

The horses in contention are All Clear , Next Move , Benedict and Cash the Cheque. Comments on individual horses are best avoided. 2.Race for 3 year olds over 1200 . Most of the horses in the fray are non jobbers going by the choice of jockeys. Carducci is well bred and blazing the tracks , will start as favorite , keeping the odds factor I see no point in justifying a bet. Sebright is ridden by Selvaraj whose antics on the horse are a treat to watch. Despite his poor form , the trainer is very particular in using his services. Fire Storm third to Sumela , field was very backward and that enabled a place. Cant see it Winning here. May at best finish 3 rd. Mulligan well bred , not sure of intent as the trainer has not opted for positive equipment change. Due to the poor form of other jockeys in the fray , one cant be tempted to go in for a place bet due to the ODDS. Pack Ur Bags - has run twice in winter. Last effort was forward and going by the race card should place by default as the horse will relish the underfoot conditions. Carducci is not bettable and that leaves us with PACK UR BAGS . A good place bet , token bets for Win and Shp. 3.Dream Runner last run was very impressive despite top handicap. The extended distance and the weights may help its performance. Samovar 1200,1400,1600,1800 and now back to 1400 ?? Trainer unable to judge its potential. With the pathetic performance of Sams Pride on Saturday , there may be little support for this filly here. The only reason for an improved performance is the inferior jockeys noticed here. Royal Music has Won in the lower class. Recent tracks are good , cant be ignored. Vega the weights , extra distance and trainers ability are all negative. Due to lack of clarity and recent form i am opting for Royal Music each way. 4.Smithsonite odds drifted in previous run and the result was on expected lines. Trainer I.Ghatala has the uncanny knack of choosing pathetic jockeys purely with a view to play to the gallery . Has now opted for apprentice jockey in terms race which does injustice to the horse , the bookies only beneficiaries. Active Grey was not given an enterprising run by R.Koch in the last outing. With the SON back after suspension , the intent looks positive. Tracks are encouraging and the bloodlines the best .

My Law first run , filly is well bred and will relish the underfoot conditions .Place looks certain. Supreme after a promising start on debut finished nowhere in the 2 nd outing. If alls well a good chance to place. Rich Celebration can only hope to place , despite its good performances as the jockey is not competent enough to WIN. Active Grey should WIN , lets hope the odds are decent enough. If not opt for Supreme place.

5. Hot Stuff was slowly off and yet finished an impressive third in its last start when ridden by D.K.Ashish. May start as favorite and hence a risky bet to consider. Summer Sun can hope to place , has not done this well over this distance in earlier outings. The top handicap will also hamper its progress. Eastern Summit Jockey is yet to WIN a race since making debut. The horse was a runaway Winner on the opening day. May not even place here as jockey is highly incompetent. Rusty finished 3 rd to Hot Stuff , the margin being 7 lenghts , the weight difference being 2 kgs. With an additional 10 kgs off its back here , I guess the result should be the reversed logically. Rest depends on the unknown commodity namely Jockey Vikas Tamang. Though Jockey is quite poor one has no choice but to go with RUSTY e/way.

6.The overwhelming opinion is that its a race between the stable mates Cardinal and Smashing. Both the horses have raced here during the invitation week end. The former has WON 5 races , the latter has WON 4 races. Cardinal is conceding weight for the first time in its career . Smashing did concede weight once in Mumbai , but beat nothing of note in that particular race. Having regard to the preparation , the mile trip , the jockeys declared , my vote goes to Cardinal. Silken Touch cant do the mile despite the favorable handicap. Bold Police ideal trip is 1400 , suspect over a mile , though it was seen finishing on well in last outing. Southern Bay has seen the best of the southern based horses. May relish a trip over 2000 metres . Over the mile , looks a bit difficult to WIN. String Along and Forever Glory are not in form. Love Conquers All and Unleashed are not in this league.

Atlantus , Practially Perfect hopefully one of them can place at longer odds. Cardinal is my choice.No harm in small bet for place on Atlantus or PP .

7.Panamera was an expensive failure in previous attempt and is not a certainty even in this race . Jockeys performance is lack lustre till date and could fail again .

Arabian Gold ran as a favorite in Winter and finished 8 th losing to several b class horses. The presence of Horses 3.4.7 in the same race gives an idea of what to expect.

Danceralla ran alongside Panamera in previous outing , finished a dismal 5 th . Can hope to place , if A.Gold decides to take it easy.

Radical Attraction the most consistent horse from the stable. Has WON 1 race in its career , but its performances have always been positive despite lack of track works. The first run this season was forward and looking at the handicap there is a fair chance to WIN. Radical Attraction - all pools , should hopefully finish in top 2. 8.A class 3 handicap race , the outcome restricted to the 3 year olds in the fray. Strides of Glory Won all 3 starts over various distances at Malakpet. Trainer Prasad Raju has opted to entrust the charge to Nityanand . May be given a couple of light runs to make it fit for the Hyd races. Shivalik Hero first run after being gelded. The last run was against far superior field and hence there is a lot of hype on its merit.Had Won 2 races , when the terms suited . Is seen conceding weight to a couple of horses , that could have an impact on the outcome. Meghalaya picked up Win race 15 over same distance , though saddle support was poor. The run benefit should enable it to place here . Own Asset despite running erratically managed to Win in its previous outing. Tracks are good. Can WIN. Stellar Ambition Finished 4.5 lenghts behind Super Storm which is a good horse. Performance of horses belonging to this Owner is often compromised due to conflict of interest. Own Asset is the Value bet . Small bet on Strides of Glory for place purely due to bloodlines. 9.Nectar Crown is back to an handicap level at which it Can WIN .One win in a year is the target and last 2 wins were in 2010 and 2011. Subsequent runs are definitely dubious as it was entrusted to mediocre jockeys . Trillion Win over raced , this being the 4 th run this season within a month.

Shes a Lady a maiden , having failed to deliver several times since debut. Has lost to many inferior horses but with the advantage in handicap and a hard rider , can oblige.

N.Crown looks the better horse , if odds above 1.50 , will go for it.
