PHYSICAL PLANNING DEVELOPMENT ACHIEVEMENT OF DR.

MUAZU BABANGIDA ALIYU, CON THE CHIEF SERVANT OF NIGER STATE


THE REVIEW OF MINNA AND SULEJA MASTER PLANS 1. Award of contract for the review of Minna and Suleja Master Plans which is on - going as well as increasing their scope beyond the initial boundary with a view to create greater Minna and Suleja respectively.

NEW URBAN CENTRES In addition to the Nine (9) Local Government headquarters declared as urban centres in 1978, the present administration has also recently declared Sixteen (16) Local Government headquarters as urban. In a bid to enhance effective control of the growth and ensure that ordinary physical development is achieved.

THE MINNA AIR PORT CITY The establishment of Minna air port city with a view to create a growth pole which will add new dimension for north west sub-regional developmental growth of the greater Minna.

THE NEW 3 ARMS ZONE A new 3 arms zone was created and established at the eastern part of Minna city. This is a positive move to decongest the decaying inner city, and as well create another growth pole to pave way for eastward strategic growth. To actualize the district plan has been produced while the implementation has commercial.

THE MINNA NEW CITY CENTRE In a bid to address the issue of rapid decaying inner core of Minna city, (the central market was recreated to a) more convenient area. A befitting world class city centre has been planned and all the process for the project to take off has been completed.

MINNA UBAN FRINGE AREA STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT CORRIDOR As an intervention measure to address the issue of physical development problem at the urban fringe of Minna, a new North East and South West Links (road) were proposed with comprehensive land use planned along their axis while the contract for the construction of the two roads was awarded and the construction work has commenced.

INDUSTRY The Garam Industrial Park bordering Niger State and Federal Capital territory (FCT) was established towards this direction site has been acquired compensation paid and the layout plan produced and approved. The provision of supporting facilities and services is on-going for its take off. The existing Minna Industrial layout has been rejuvenated with the status elevated to an industrial park. It has been enriched with such facilities as: Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre, good road network, electricity, water, general parking area. The park also has within its fold an industrial doubter, building material market, as well as mechanics furniture, welders and spare parts setters villages and has commenced operation.

HOUSING The Five Hundred (500) units M.I Wushishi housing estate was completed and commissioned. It has been serviced with a clinic, school, place of worship, police post, water, electricity, good road network and have been allocated to civil servants and civil society. Also availing to be commissioned. The Five Hundred (500) units Talban Housing estate. In addition to the above, construction work is on going for Two Hundred Fifty (250) units Aliyu Makama and col Sani Bello Housing estate at Bida and Kontagora respectively.

An MOU has also been signed with Seven (7) developers for construction of Eight Thousand (8000) Housing units in Minna and other urban centres of the state.

URBAN RENEWAL An approval has been granted by the State Government while arrangement is in top year for the commencement of urban renewal of some plighted areas of Minna city and this will be extended to other urban areas in the state.

10.

NIGIS Realizing the potential of the Geographical Information System (GIS) The State Government has completed the NIGIS. (Niger State Geographical Information System), was commissioned by Mrs. President in the recent past and has commenced operation.

WARD DEVELOPMENT PROJECT PROGRAMME In order to promote grass root physical development, the chief servant in his wisdom has introduced the ward development project programme. It is a grass-root development initiative with a monthly allocation of One Million Naira (1,000,000.00) allocation to each of the Two Hundred and Seventy Four (274) wards throughout the state.

The outcome of this programme is the initiation as well as completion of community based utilities facilities and services which include boreholes, clinics, schools, culverts, drainages, place of worship as well as capacity building in terms of poverty alleviation. Within the Two Hundred and seventy Four (274) wards of Niger State.
