INDIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY (A Central University)

India is traditionally a maritime nation and has a rich maritime heritage. History documents trade links of India had with other nations of the world from the ages of Harappan civilization. With a long coast from the State of West Bengal on the East to State of Gujarat on the West, India today moves 95% of its traded goods by volume to the rest of the world. Ports and Shipping form the integral part of the maritime sector contributing greatly to the economic growth of the country. An Affiliating University: The Indian Maritime University, established through an Act of Parliament on 14/11/2008 as Central University, is poised to play a key role in the development of required human resource for the maritime sector. The Indian Maritime University, being the first of its kind in the country will cater to the educational requirement of the maritime fraternity. It is a teaching and affiliating University which will offer degree, post graduate degree and research programmes in all disciplines of maritime sector.

Visakhapatnam Campus
The IMU Visakhapatnam Campus emerges from the confluence of the centrally established Indian Maritime University at Chennai, and Indias premier ship design and maritime research institution, the National Ship Design and Research Centre. Pioneered in the early90s by the Government of India to pilot and consolidate national domain knowledge with global vision, NSDRC has undertaken several milestone projects in the areas of Ship Design, Construction and Applied Research. Therefore, IMU Visakhapatnam Campus heralds the integration of visionary academic insight with the accumulated professional expertise and knowledge base on Ship Design and Maritime Technology. Presently Visakhapatnam Campus is located in the former NSDRC Office and residential complex on a 5 acre property located on the main road connecting Naval Base and Scindia junction (Hindustan Shipyard) on one side and HPCL and Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on the other side.

School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering is offering the following courses for the academic year 2012-13. 1. B.Tech. in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. 2. B.Sc. in Ship Building and Repair at Cochin campus. 3. M.Tech. in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. 4. M.Tech. in Dredging and Harbour Engineering. 5. Research Programme leading to Ph.D. degree.

M.TECH IN NAVAL ARCHITECTURE AND OCEAN ENGINEERING Aims and Objectives The programme in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering is aimed at graduate engineers who wish to make a carrier in the area of ship and ocean engineering design and production or allied industries. There is, at present, tremendous growth in Indian Shipbuilding and offshore industry. Also, India has been found to be a profitable outsourcing hub for many external design/ consultancy organisations. Adequate number of qualified naval architects and shipbuilders are not available to take this challenge. The present programme aims at quickly producing maritime design and construction engineers to fill this need on an immediate basis. Mode of Instruction This programme is fully residential. Duration The duration of this programme will be two academic years consisting of four semesters of course work and a project. There will be a mid-semester and an end semester examination for each subject. The schedule of classes, evaluation and grading system will be as per the norms of IMU. Location The programme is fully residential and will be conducted at the NSDRC, presently IMU Campus at Visakhapatnam in the academic year 2012-2013.

Entry Requirements The candidate must have successfully completed Bachelors degree in Mechanical / Civil / Aeronautical Engineering / Marine Engineering / Naval Architecture or equivalent. General candidates should have 60% aggregate in B.Tech. and 55% for reserved category candidates. Seat Reservation As per Government of India directives. Mode of Selection 1. Application to Indian Maritime University, Visakhapatnam campus. 2. Selection on the basis written test conducted by IMU at Visakhapatnam campus. 3. Counselling of the selected candidates 4. M.TECH. IN DREDGING AND HARBOUR ENGINEERING. Aims and Objectives The programme in Dredging and Harbor Engineering is aimed at graduate engineers who wish to make a carrier in the area of Dredging, part and harbor engineering and allied industries. There is at present tremendous growth in Indian Infrastructure Industry in port sector. Adequate numbers of qualified engineers are not available to take this challenge. The present programme aims at quickly producing maritime engineers in the area of dredging and harbor engineering to fill this need on an immediate basis. 5. Ph.D PROGRAMME Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D Programme of the Indian Maritime University. Candidates with M.Tech / M.E. or equivalent degree applying for Ph.D. programme should have obtained their Masters Degree from colleges / Universities which are approved by the AICTE / UGC. Instructions to the candidates

1. Candidate should produce the Hall ticket for M. Tech Entrance Examination 2012 along with identity card. 2. Candidate should be present in the above address at least one hour before commencement of the examination. 3. Candidate should bring all his original certificates along with one set of Xerox copies duly attested by the gazetted officer. 4. Candidate will not be allowed to carry any manuscripts, text materials printed/written bits of paper or any other material except hall ticket. 5. Smoking is strictly prohibited.
