Subang Jaya council mulls
new dog-catching method

THE Subang Jaya Municipal
Council (MPSJ) is considering the
use of a Korean netting method to
capture stray dogs following nu-
merous complaints from residents
on the mistreatment of the dogs.
The method ensures the safety
of the canines and involves the
use of a device which releases a
net to catch the animals.
This was one of the issues
discussed by the council at its last
monthly meeting.
In a statement issued after the
meeting late last month, council
president Datuk Adnan Md Ikshan
said the council had received about
1,040 complaints from residents
in the municipality regarding the
treatment of stray dogs and would
consider the netting method, but
also noted that there are only six
dog catchers at present.
He said the refillable device
used to net the animals costs
RM2,000 and each refill costs
RM10.
Other issues discussed at the
meeting include the location of
scrap metal businesses and car
workshops, the issuing of licences
to massage parlours, entertain-

and to widen job openings.
However, entrepreneurs are
required to get a police permit for
their business and must ensure
their premises are located on
industrial land.
In addition, such premises
built on government land will be
demolished.

PETALING JAYA residents staged a peaceful
protest against the proposed commercial devel-
opment of the Yayasan FAS (Football Association
of Selangor Foundation) field as they feel it would
aggravate the traffic congestion and parking
problem in Kelana Jaya.
About 200 residents from the surrounding
areas of Taman Megah Mas, Taman Mayang, Ara
Damansara and occupants from apartments and
condominiums nearby gathered at a bus stop
outside the field last Monday morning, carrying
banners with words “No FAS project”, “PJ is
over developed” and “No 28-storey and No 15-
storey”.
The proposed commercial development in-
cludes office shoplots, two blocks of 15-28 storey
office towers, four electrical sub-stations and a
basement car park.
All Petaling Jaya, Selangor Residents Associa-
tion Coalition (Apac) president Liew Wei Beng said
the residents want the field to be maintained and
the status of the land as a playing field restored.
“We are against the development of this piece
of land for commercial property because we want
to maintain this (land) as open area,” he said.
He said the residents are planning to submit a
memorandum on the matter to Mentri Besar Tan
Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

Chow Wang said the field should be maintained as
a football field for the benefit of residents.
He said the traffic jam on the Damansara-Pu-
chong Higway (LDP) had worsened substantially
and would be exacerbated by new developments
in the area.
“I urge the state government to reject the ap-
plication to develop the field into a commercial
complex, but to maintain it as a playing field,”
said Chan. He added that there are other develop-
ments coming up in the area.
Also present at the gathering were Petaling
Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, Bukit Gasing assembly-
man Edward Lee, councillors Cynthia Gabriel and
K.W. Mak.
