Aiken residents are invited to weigh in on six potential names for a new university name for Georgia Health Sciences and Augusta State universities, which are consolidating next year. A committee with representatives from both institutions narrowed the list from more than 1,225 suggestions submitted by the community in April. We would love input from Aiken, said Jennifer Hillard Scott, senior media relations coordinator for Georgia Health Sciences University. The six potential names are Augusta University, University of Augusta, Arsenal University, Augusta Arsenal University, Bartram University or Noble University. The input will be considered when the list of six is narrowed to three and presented to the University System of Georgia Board of Regents before the Augusta meeting when the name will be decided, Scott said. The new university, which will be headed by GHSUs Ricardo Azziz, will initially be a $1.3 billion enterprise, with statewide, national and global reach. It will include nine colleges, nearly 10,000 students, more than 650 campus acres, nearly 150 buildings, more than 1,000 full-time faculty and approximately 5,600 staff, an integrated health system and a growing athletics program hat includes backto-back NCAA Division 1 national championships. The public is invited to select its top three choices by going to www.asughsu. org/name by Friday.
