Install the consolidated GLS layer for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, the individual GLS layers for China, Japan, India, Thailand, and Brazil have been merged into a single, consolidated GLS layer. This document explains how to install the consolidated GLS layer. You must upgrade directly to the consolidated GLS layer. This means that you must not run the upgrade checklist until after you have installed Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, then Service Pack 1, and then the consolidated GLS layer. If you run the upgrade checklist before you install everything, you may lose country-specific data.

Supported upgrade paths

Depending on the features that you have installed, you may have to perform extra steps when you upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 and the consolidated GLS layer.

Japan, Thailand, China, or Brazil

If you are using features for Japan, Thailand, China, or Brazil, you must upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 Service Pack 2 or higher. If you are upgrading from an earlier version, you must complete the upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 Service Pack 2 before following the instructions in this document.

India
If you are using features for India and you are upgrading from Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 Service Pack 2, no additional steps are necessary. If you are upgrading from an earlier version, you must import an XPO file as part of the upgrade process. For more information, see Step 5: Complete the initialization or upgrade checklist later in this document.

Step 1: Before you install

Before you install, you must download the files and review the release notes and known issues documentation.

Download the files

The installation files for the consolidated GLS layer are contained in a self-extracting file that is named DynamicsAX2009-KB960013-GLSCons.exe. Double-click the file and provide a location where the contents of the file should be extracted. We recommend choosing a location other than the Microsoft Dynamics AX installation folder. Review release notes and known issues

We recommend reviewing the release notes and known issues documentation for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, Service Pack 1, and the consolidated GLS layer before you install.

Known issues for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009

For information about the known issues for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, see the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 Known Issues document (CustomerSource logon required).

Known issues for Service Pack 1

For information about the known issues for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 Service Pack 1, see the Service Pack 1 Readme (CustomerSource logon required).

Known issue for the consolidated GLS layer

If you are installing India features, the updated help wrapper is not installed. This means that help for the consolidated GLS features will not be displayed when users click F1, will not appear in the table of contents, and will not be returned in help searches. To work around this issue, download the India help wrapper from the following location: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=139881. Unzip the file and copy it to the following location on client computers: \Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics AX\50\Client\Bin\Help\EN-IN. If you are installing features for Japan, Thailand, China, or Brazil, the help wrapper is installed correctly.

Step 2: Install Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009

If this is a new installation of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, install base components. Do not complete the initialization checklist at this point. For more information, see the Microsoft Dynamics AX Installation Guide. If you are upgrading from a previous release, perform the pre-upgrade procedures and install Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 as described in the Microsoft Dynamics AX Upgrade Guide. Do not complete the upgrade checklist at this point.

Step 3: Install Service Pack 1

After you have installed Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, you must install Service Pack 1. For more information, see the installation instructions included with the Service Pack 1 download. Do not complete the upgrade checklist at this point. Important: Pre-release versions of Service Pack 1 are not supported.

Step 4: Install the consolidated GLS layer

After you have installed Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 and Service Pack 1, you can install the consolidated GLS layer. Perform the following procedure on each Microsoft Dynamics AX server computer. 1. Browse to the location where you extracted the installation files and double-click the file AXUpdate.exe. 2. Select the language to run the installation in and click OK. 3. On the Welcome page, click OK. 4. On the License terms page, review the license terms. Select the option to accept the license terms, and then click Next. 5. On the Select components page, select Application files and Components and click OK. 6. On the Select the Application instances to update page, select to update all instances or a particular instance of the application files. Click OK. 7. On the Ready to install update (KB960013) page, review the summary of the components that will be updated. Select the following options, if applicable. Select whether to back up the existing application files. If you select this option, make sure that at least 3.5 GB disk space is available. If disk space is insufficient, the installation will fail. Select whether to automatically restart AOS instances after the update is complete. Note: An AOS instance will restart only if it was running when you started the installation. Although the installer might display a message that the AOS is restarting, we recommend verifying that all AOSes have started after the installation is complete. Click Next. 8. When the installation has finished, click Finish to close the wizard.

Step 5: Complete the initialization or upgrade checklist

This section provides information about the tasks in the installation and upgrade checklists. You must complete the steps in the appropriate checklist after you install the consolidated GLS layer and before you install or update required, development, or integration components using the Setup wizard.
