Instructions : LITHOGRAPHIC PRESSES

1. Description
Location of installation : Brand : ARTLEY Type : L 90 A Serial Number : Year of construction : Energy sources : 2 x 230 Volt 3,6 Amp.

2. Operation
Machine for printing lithographic stones with a maximum size of 800 x 100 cm and a maximum thickness of 12 cm MINIMUM THICKNESS OF THE STONE : 4 CM ! For operation only by authorized personnel with knowledge of these instructions Guidelines for setting up the machine When the machine has arrived, first check the following points : -Make sure that the machine was not damaged during transport. -Check whether any parts are missing -Check the packaging for damage -The machine may not be stored in open air -Bring the machine to its designated location using an appropriate lifting device and be mindful of the correct distribution of weight. -Provide a flat, solid surface with sufficient foundation. -The machine should be placed in an area which is protected from rain and moisture. -Connect the machine via a grounded electric socket equipped with a residual-current device and appropriate fuses

3. Use
A. Preparation
Ensure that the printing surface is clean and cleared Ensure that the print product can be processed by the machine in an orderly fashion. Prior to operation, check that no one is in the vicinity of the machine. Place the stone on the printing carriage, apply ink, place paper and tympan. Lubricate with water or grease according to the tympan type Place the printing carriage with the stone underneath the brush Adjust the pressure by turning the handwheel : counterclockwise - increase pressure/clockwise - decrease pressure Pull the pressure lever down

B. Actuation

Place the lockable main switch (1) in position I The yellow(2) and blue(3) (reset) lights will light up. Press the reset button(3), the blue light will go out. The machine is ready for use. CAUTION : After each use of the emergency stop (5) the machine must be reset. The red button (4) indicates the option to work manually or semi-manually. In the manual position :

Press the operation bulb. to move forward, set the pressure, to print, to return Movement will stop as soon as the button is released. (Hold-to-run principle) Any possible movement can be made at all times in this position. Ensure that the brush cannot slide off the stone under pressure !

In the semi-automatic position : Only a FULL cycle can be performed in this position : Press the printing carriage will move to the beginning of the stone (no more returns are possible at this point) Set the pressure. Press again the press will print and stop at the end of the stone No more forward movement is possible, only returns can be performed by pressing the button. IMPORTANT ! The cycle cannot be interrupted or performed incompletely Always allow the printing carriage to return until it is automatically stopped by the end stops.

C. Stopping the machine


Release the pressure by moving the pressure lever back up. Bring the printing carriage back to its starting position Remove paper and tympan. Place the main switch in the O position

4. Inspection and maintenance


Check the condition of the machine regularly End stops, safety contacts, shielding, entrapment... Check the presence and legibility of the instructions If necessary, immediately remove the first signs of rust Regularly remove paper cuttings and scrap paper Keep the machine clear of gum residue, grinding powder, ink residue...

5. Safety prescriptions
Ensure that the working surface is clean and clear Prior to power up, check that no one is in the vicinity of the machine All safeties and shields equipped by the manufacturer should be operational and in use Operation of the machine is reserved for authorized personnel, with the use of both hands. For operation only by authorized personnel who have read these instructions and abide by them Ensure the main switch is in the off position during maintenance and cleaning activities and that it is locked with a padlock. The plug should also be removed from the electric socket. Be mindful of any remaining entrapment hazards indicated with a pictogram Always wear appropriate clothing no loose-fitting clothing or jewellery Be mindful at all times Do not operate the machine when you are not focused Any personnel operating the machine must be trained beforehand by a skilled worker Use only original spare parts as indicated in the spare parts list. Never touch any moving parts ! Do not regulate the control panel yourself or apply modifications to the frequency regulator among other things Do not continue operation in case of failure immediately notify authorized personnel Keep the machine surroundings clear of obstacles, materials and the like.. Never print stones with a thickness of less than 4 cm and never bring down the brush any lower : It may come loose !!

6. Foreseeable abnormal situations


Immediately switch off the machine and notify authorized personnel when : the machine shuts down due to overload the printing carriage is slipping the printing carriage does not stop at the beginning and end of the trajectory (faulty end switches) the machine does not immediately stop when the operation bulb buttons are released abnormal sounds are produced around the engine, reductor or bearings Built-in safeties: Lockable main switch Reset button End-of-trajectory switches Emergency stop Hold-to-run operation Shields - entrapment hazards pictograms for residual risks

7. Environment and hygiene


- Keep the machine's surroundings clean - Immediately remove paper residue and rags and dispose of them in a designated container
