PURPOSE: To alert service personnel of a kit that is available which will correct the blow out problem that occasionally occurs with the grommet that provides the sensor wire seal between the compressor base and motor housing.

BACKGROUND: Due to the pressure difference between the compressor base (sump) and the motor housing on all 19DK and DM machines, it is possible to blow out the grommet that provides the sensor wire seal between these two chambers. This grommet seal is an expandable rubber plug which depends on friction to hold it in place. This can blow out if not properly tightened. Even when properly tightened there still is the possibility of blowout since there was no positive means for restraining the grommet. All machines produced from approximately April 1, 1989 have the new design grommet which is shown in the sketch below. This new design adds a snap ring on the motor side of the seal. This provides a positive restriction against blowout.

ALSO AVAILABLE: KIT NUMBER: 19DK660-004 (3 wires) KIT: 19DA660-007 (was 19DA13-102 4 wires) KIT: 19DA660-008 (was 19DA15-102 2 wires)

PROCEDURE: This new grommet assembly is available from the Replacement Components Division as kit number 19DK-660-004. In order to install this grommet, it is necessary to have access to the motor side of the seal. This requires the motor to be removed. RECOMMENDATION: All machines that require a motor repair or have the motor removed for any reason should have the grommet replaced at the same time.
