Configuring ASM disk on Oracle 11g (11.1.0.6.

0) ) database running on Windows


2003 Server

1. Start  My computer  Right click  Manage


Navigate to Disk Management and
Check the disk if the disk you want to use for ASM is basic.
(Dynamic not supported)

If that is not basic disk, convert as below


2. Create new partition.
Select the disk and right click. New partition Wizard will be invoked.

3. Select Primary or extended partition and click Next.


4. Select the size of Partition and click next
5. Assign a drive letter (This step required just ASMTOOLG to recognize this
volume. We will remove drive letter once assigned)

6. Select “Do not format this partition” and Next.


7. Finish.
8. Start – Run
Type asmtoolg <Enter>

9. Select Add or change label.

10. Select the disk and select the prefix and Next.
11. Finish
12. Start  Run  dbca

13. Select “Configure Automatic Storage Management” and Next


14. If you want to add this disk to existing “Disk group”. Select the disk group and click
[add disk].
If you want to create new Disk group Click [Create New]
Type Disk group name; check the disk that just added. Select redundancy
(External allows creating with single disk but confirming that the disk is protected
externally).

OK

15. Finish.
16. (Open a command prompt) Start  Run  CMD. Confirm the disk can be seen
from ASM instance.
