Adminp operations, such as Delete person and Rename person, can experience performance degradation after upgrading to 8.5.1 and more recent releases

Technote (troubleshooting) Problem

In Lotus Domino 8.5.1 and more recent releases, the Domino Directory made several strides in the directory architecture, in order to abstract knowledge of proprietary database operations while managing directory objects. These directory architecture enhancements bring Lotus Notes and Domino closer to hosting users and groups in LDAP directories as well as Domino directories. The Administration process (adminp) now searches for attributes that might not exist in a view in names.nsf. As a result, for Domino 8.5.1 and more recent releases, administrators need to create a full-text index for all Domino directories hosted on an administration server including the primary Domino Directory, names.nsf. Upgrading the Domino directory template, pubnames.ntf, does not affect the issue. A full-text index must be created for all Administration servers in Domino 8.5.1 or more recent.

Symptom
After an upgrade to 8.5.1 or more recent release, Domino administrators might notice it takes longer to complete operations such as an Adminp Delete person and Rename Person.

Diagnosing the problem

Note: If the directory is not full-text indexed, this warning is displayed in the server logs: LDAP Server: You should full text index Domino directory names.nsf on to improve search performance for filters like '(&(objectclass=x)( (member=x) (additionalmembers=x)(excludedmembers=x)))'

Resolving the problem

Full-text indexing of the Domino Directory, names.nsf, mitigates performance issues. Supporting Information: This issue was reported in Domino 8.5.2, with SPR# JXBI8AUA6X: Adminp performance downgrade severely after upgrade to 8.5.2 For more information on Full-text indexing see related documents: Creating and managing a full-text index Updall switches, Update and NIF - Notes indexing basics Optimizing database views
