Welcome Participants
Booster Seat Law~ effective January 1, 2008. Children
over 40 lbs, who are under 4'9", and until their 10th
birthday, must use a booster seat. The weight would be
according to the maximum weight restriction on your
individual booster seat. If you have any questions, please
call any of our “Car Seat Safety” trained staff!
At Kids West, we offer programs for children, parents,
and families. All of our programs are free of charge,
except in the case where we bring someone else in to
facilitate. Please contact us at any time to register.
Parent’s Programs
Kids Have Stress Too: This is a 3 session program aimed at
helping parents and caregivers understand childhood stresses
and how to provide parents with the tools to help children
deal with this stress effectively. Starting in January.
Siblings without Rivalry: This is a one night information
session to help parents find some fresh ideas for coping with
the challenges that often comes with being the parent of more
than one child. Offered in March.
1-2-3-Magic If you are parenting a child between the ages of
2-12, this 3 session program may be for you. The program
teaches parents the fundamental attitudes and skills necessary
for parents of young children. 1-2-3 Magic will identify three
separate and critical parenting steps - 1. Controlling
challenging behaviour, 2.encouraging good behaviour, and
3.strengthening your relationship with your child.
This program will start in the month of March.
First Aid-CPR: It offers the skills to help parents feel
prepared in the event of an accident.. We offer training three
times a year and spaces are limited so please call early to
avoid disappointment.
This one night session will be held on Tuesday, March 4th
from 6-9:00 p.m. There will be a charge of $5.00 per person
to be paid on or before Friday February 29th at the Kids
West Centre in Alberton. Call to pre-register at
853-4066.
Daddy Boot Camp: For first time fathers who want to learn
more about basic baby care. Topics will include but are not
limited to diapering, feeding baby, baby play and bonding
with your baby. This group will be a one night session only.
Parents Anonymous: Do you ever feel stress or
overwhelmed as a parent? Want other parents to talk to?
Come to a Parents Anonymous group where other parents
can freely share their questions, concerns, problems, and
solutions about parenting in a safe and supportive
atmosphere. All Parents Anonymous groups are free of
charge and will meet every Monday night at 6:30 - 8:30
p.m. at Kids West in Alberton.
Positive Parenting from Two Homes:
Are you concerned about the effects of separation, divorce
and parenting from two homes? Do you need assistance
managing these changes to ensure that your children do not
get caught in the middle of parental conflict? This program
can help.
Active Parenting of Teens at Callaghan (Community
School) starting January 15 from 7:00-9:00 pm. It will
run for 6 sessions at a cost of $15.00 and will be facilitated
by Rene Tremblay.

~ In the event of closure of the Western School Board
due to weather conditions, all Kids West programs will be
cancelled for that day. If there is a 1 hour delay, play group
will be cancelled that day but office hours will run on a 1
hour delay. ~
Children’s Programs
The Best Me I can Be: This is a 4 session program for
children ages 4-6 years and their parents/caregivers. The goal
of this group is to encourage positive self-esteem in each child.
Through songs, stories and games, children come to learn that
we are all unique and that we all have special talents. This will
start in the month of February. Call for more details.
Little Chef’s: This is a four session program for children ages
4-6 years and their parents/caregivers. Children learn basic
cooking skills, try new foods and learn about Canada’s Food
Guide, all while having fun. This program will begin in April.
Sunrise Music: This is an eight session program for 3-4 year
olds, once a week here at the Alberton center. This program
promotes the happy habit of learning music. Included in each
session there will be fine and gross motor activities, individual
singing, listening activities, playing of rhythm instruments and
rhythm development. Start date to be Thursday, March 6th,
2008. This program will be lead again by Brenda Lee at a one
-time cost of $8.00 or $16.00 including the Sunrise Music CD.
Kids West offers free Car Seat Check’s on Monday’s.
It takes approximately ½ hour to check your seat to make
sure that your child is buckled up properly in your vehicle.
Please take the time to ensure that your “ Precious Cargo”
is safe for every trip.

 Kids West -Playgroup Themes Programs for New and Expecting Mother’s:
Baby Connections: A group for mom’s with new
babies. This group meets every Tuesday afternoon
Jan. 2-4 No Playgroup - Winter Programming
from 1:30-2:30 pm. This group offers an opportunity
Jan. 8-11 Welcome Back to build knowledge and friendships for both baby and
mom. Nutrition and baby care are the mainstay of the
Jan. 15-18 Snow! Snow! Snow! program. Babies stay with their moms for each
session. When baby becomes mobile, on-site childcare
Jan. 22-25 Family Literacy is available by our Early Childhood Educators. This
allows mom the freedom to continue participation
Jan. 29-Feb. 1 Skating Extravaganza
within the group.
One on One Support Service: This service is
available to new and expectant mothers at the Kids
Feb. 5-8 Winter Carnival West office or on in- home visits; on a casual or
long-term basis. The role is to listen and support
Feb. 12-15 Valentine’s women in their pregnancy and/or in their early
parenting experience. Referrals to professionals as
Feb. 19-22 Brother’s/Sister’s desired.
Feb. 26-29 Super Sledding Teen Parent Support: Offers prenatal information
and support to pregnant and parenting students at
Westisle. This group provides students with a chance
to support one another and learn about pregnancy
March 4-7 Teddy Bear Clinic and parenting.
Breastfeeding Support anytime during office hours.
March 11-14 St. Patrick’s Week There is also a wide variety of books, video’s,
Kids West will remain open during March Break. equipment and pamphlets available for new parents,

Breastfeeding Support Group A breast feeding
March 25-28 Wondrous Water support group has started and meets on Wednesdays
at 1:00 PM at the Alberton center. Breastfeeding
moms and their babies are welcome as well as
pregnant moms considering breastfeeding.
April 1-4 Health and Nutrition
Prenatal Classes offered by Mae Gorrill at Public
April 8-11 Wildlife World Health. Classes start on January 8, 2008 from
7:00pm- 9:00 pm at The O’Leary Community
April 15-18 Dental Health Hospital. For more information call Mae @ 859-

April 22-25 Moon and Stars If you are interested in any of the above programs,

April 29-May 2 Art and Culture
For Parents’ peace of mind, we also have “Baby
Weighing” available during office hours. Drop in

The Staff at Kids West would like to say a belated but
heartfelt congratulations to Cindy and Jordan
Griffin on the birth of their beautiful son Bennett
Jack who was born on June 22, 2007. He weighed in
at 11lbs ½ oz and is growing strong, healthy and
happy! His proud big brothers are Logan, Thomas
and Alec. Cindy is on maternity until the spring.
Also, Kids West would like to extend a sincere Thank
You to all of you who have contributed to our annual
Christmas Giving!!! It was another huge success
