FREEDOM OF THE SOUL IS FREEDOM INDEED!

Isa 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified. The Birth of American Independence.

When the initial battles in the Revolutionary War broke out in April 1775, few colonists desired complete independence from Great Britain, and those who did were considered radical. By the middle of the following year, however, many more colonists had come to favor independence, thanks to growing hostility against Britain and the spread of revolutionary sentiments such as those expressed in Thomas Paines best selling pamphlet Common Sense, published in early 1776. On June 7, when the Continental Congress met at the Pennsylvania State House (later Independence Hall) in Philadelphia, the Virginia delegate Richard Henry Lee introduced a motion calling for the colonies independence. Amid heated debate, Congress postponed the vote on Lees resolution, but appointed a five-man committee-including Thomas Jefferson of Virginia, John Adams of Massachusetts, Roger Sherman of Connecticut, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania and Robert R. Livingston of New York--to draft a formal statement justifying the break with Great Britain.

July 4th of every year we celebrate our liberty. America is called, The Land of the Free. If you have been listening to what is going on in America today you know that our freedom is in danger of being taken away from us by our very own government. Every moral American had better respond at the polls this November, or we stand in danger of losing this precious freedom. But there is a greater freedom than the freedom we have in America and that is the freedom from the power of sin! Isaiah 61 is about the Lord Jesus Christ coming to earth as a man. His mission was not only to give us eternal life, but to break the power of sin in our lives and give us the FREEDOM to do that which is right. Jesus came in the power of the Spirit of the Lord. Jesus was anointed to Preach good tidings to the meek! The New Testament uses the word poor. Preaching is to be proclaimed to those who understand that they are needy. These are people who know that they do not have the power to be god of their own lives and that they need a Savior. The gospel is good news to those who are aware of their need. A preacher was asked by a man, How can I know that I am saved? The preacher said, When were you lost? You must be lost before you understand you need to be saved. You must see yourself as a sinner in need of a Savior. The world had waited a long time for these wonderful good tidings of the gospel. Next, Jesus was sent to bind up the brokenhearted.

IN MEMORY OF:
He was a childhood friend of Glorias father, who shared in play, work, and worship with one another for many years. Both showed the person and the spirit of Christ in their lives and were one in their love for Christ. Please pray for his wife, who is in her 90s as she ajusts to the changes in her life.

TID BITS OF WISDOM MONTHLY REPORT

Life certainly moves at a fast pace these days. There never seems to be enough time to complete everything. We are hearing sweet testimonies concerning Tid Bits of Wisdom. Many tell us they read every word before they put it down. Often we are told that they mean to send a gift, but just havent done it. Should they all get around to it, we could enlarge our outreach. God knows and He is faithful to send what we need, just when we need it. This month we received a couple of one time gifts that helped to pay for office supplies. We are thankful for all who join us in this work, especially those who have faithfully supported the last six years. There are about eight supporters that we can almost guess the day the gift will arrive, due to their faithfulness. It must please the Lord greatly when we show faithfulness to His work. There is always a small group at church that you can just know they will be there and they are a blessing to the work. Galilean Baptist Church will celebrate her 80th birthday the last Sunday in July. We are trying to contact all of the former members and invite them to celebrate with us that day. Dr. John R. Rice started this church in an open field revival in 1932. He and J. Frank Norris worked together in the revival and the first year the church ran around 1,300 people, most having been saved in the revival. When we came to Galilean, there were still several charter members, but we began burying them one by one. It was a blessing to know those who have been a part of the beginning, hear their stories about the past and be there for them and their families when the Lord took them home. If Galilean Baptist Church has ever touched your life, we would love to hear your story and have you attend with us the last Sunday in July. Remember, if you would like to honor someone who has passed away with a love gift to the paper, we will print their names in the next months paper. All gifts can be sent to Tid Bits of Wisdom, 1801 Old Hickory Trail, DeSoto, Texas, 75115, phone 214-293-5252. Our web address is on the back page. All gifts are tax deductible. This paper is paid for by faith through Gods people. We are Jerry and Gloria Brewster, born again servants of the Lord Jesus Christ, making ourselves available to Gods service. Hello Folks: My daughter and I were out your way last week and saw a fox cross the street. It was so pretty. When the last storm came through, lightning came in my bedroom window, hit my phone by the bed and jumped over to my purse and caught it on fire. It was scary, as I was sitting on the bed. Do you think someone is trying to tell me something? My gift is not much but hope it helps. J. Berry, Lancaster, TX. It was good to see you both at the Indian Creek Cemetery meeting last month. It was good to think back in time when my stepdad and I would visit with your father and mother, the Kruegers, when they lived in Tioga, Texas. My stepdad Cass Reasor was a preacher for over 60 years. God Bless you both for the Tid Bits of Wisdom every month. L. Cox Gainesville, TX. Our gift is enclosed to help Tid Bits continue to be placed in the hands of those who are blessed by the papers wisdom. Bill and I enjoy reading the articles.

and I always receive something that feeds my soul from its pages. You are both an example of God molding two lives as one in marriage and in His service. Thank you for giving up your lives to Him - Jesus is making something beautiful in the process of yielding. God bless you and keep you. We are praying for both of you. Love B. & L. Root, Rowlett, TX. This past month we heard from a dear friend, Kenneth Everitt. He is our age and had never read through his Bible. He went to visit a friend and the friend was reading through his Bible and it encouraged him to do likewise. He went home and got a copy of our Bible reading schedule and began. By the first of June he had completed his reading. He said he would find himself so involved that he would spend two to three times longer than he had planned. Now if he could do that in half the time, then you could begin now and finish by the end of the year, IF you really wanted too. He was so excited about accomplishing something so important to him. Glorias father pastored the Walnut Springs Baptist Church in Canton, Texas, when she and Kenneth were young children. They would chase each other around the cars in the parking lot after church. We have kept up with each others lives through the years and praised God for the works we have watched Him do in each of our lives. It is so good to share the Word of God with one another. Gods people are family!

F E M A L E INSPIRATIONS

By Gloria Brewster

My spiritual gift is exhortation and once I learned what my gift was, I always felt like it was my job to encourage those who were struggling. Do you have any idea how many people need to be encouraged? There is no end! I was born in a small hospital in Dallas. It was the Good Samaritan Hospital and I have been pulling people out of the ditch ever since!!! I love helping people and seeing hope and joy return to their faces. I recall many days in my youth when I thought I wouldnt make it, that the Scriptures would speak to my heart and encourage me to keep going. I know the Word of God is sufficient to take us through the roughest time, but getting people to hear Gods Word and then to get them to hope in His Word, is not always easy. I will forever be grateful to my parents for teaching me that Gods Word is the truth and that life comes from obedience to His truth. My parents taught me to fear the Lord! I believed with my whole heart, that if I disobeyed His Word I would be the loser. That caused me to hold on when our marriage was in great danger and many other difficult times. I believe that a rich full life comes from walking as close to the Lord as possible and when I am disobedient I am robbing myself of the treasures the Lord has laid up for me. The better I know Him, the easier life becomes. I spend time in the scriptures just so I can get a better picture of Him in my mind. If you are reading through your Bible this year, you should be somewhere near Isaiah. As I was reading Isaiah 53 I realized that this chapter tells us how we can be like Christ when we serve others. This chapter tells us how He served us. Jesus endured all the things in this chapter because He loved us! How much do we love others. That person God has given you to serve, is a person that the Lord suffered for and gave His life for. God asks us to give ourselves to others because He loves them. That person you have a hard time serving, is a person the Lord loved enough to die for. When I became a Christian, the Holy Spirit began conforming me to the image of Christ. I should resemble Christ in my work. My service to that difficult person should be as if Christ was serving them. Do those difficult people in our lives see Christ in us as we serve them? Lets look at the person of Christ and see how our service to others lines up with His service to us.
Isaiah 53 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

DOES JESUS UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH?

as man. He humbled Himself to serve us so we would know that He understands where we live. Jesus was born as a tender plant. He was not born with great strength, He matured into a great man. He went through the growing up stages just like we do.
Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

Jesus knows what it is to have to grow up and to mature. He knows what it is to learn how to find favour with God and man. He learned how to handle relationships. He was as a root out of a dry ground. Its hard to get a plant to grow, but to grow in a dry ground is very difficult, yet Jesus bloomed in dry circumstances. Do you feel like you are living in a desert sometimes? Well, if Jesus could bloom in the desert, then we can bloom in the desert, if we will let Him live through us. Jesus had no form nor comeliness. If you had seen Him you would not have seen any beauty that would make you desire Him. In other words, He would not have stood out in a crowd. He looked like the average man. Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought you were a plain Jane? Well, thank the Lord, we dont need beauty to be successful. As a matter of fact, beauty has destroyed many a person. Life is within the soul of a person, not the body. You may say to yourself, I am nothing special. Well, Jesus came as plain as anyone, without any honors from His parents.

It is hard to think of the Lord as a man. He laid down His rights as God to live

Dr. Lee Roberson Man of God

1909 - 2007

Dr. Lee Roberson

Dr. Lee & Mrs. Caroline (Allen) Roberson

A couple of months ago, Bro. Jim and Mrs. Barbara Law called and asked if we knew of any one who would be interested in buying prints of Dr. Lee and Mrs. Caroline Roberson. We told them we would be interested and we purchased 23 prints. In the 1980s Bro. Jim Law had a photography shop. Dr. Roberson was at the Central Baptist Church preaching and Bro. Law invited him and his wife to come to his shop and have their pictures taken. They did and Bro. Law produced 23 prints that were exceptionally good of both him and his wife. We were thrilled to find these. We are offering to send two 8x10s of Dr. Lee Roberson and his wife for a love gift of $25 or more to Tid Bits of Wisdom. These would be beautiful pictures to hang in the church in honor of their service to the body of Christ. Maybe you attended the college and would like to have a memory of them in your home. Tid Bits of Wisdom had two 11x14s made for Dr. Clarence Sexton to hang in his museum. Dr. Roberson was like a father to him. Dr. Sexton said he had over 800 pictures of Dr. Roberson, but none compared to these. Gloria and I have a plaque with a picture of Bro. Roloff with his life verse and every time we pass by, we are reminded of what he taught us and how God used him in our lives. With your gift of $25 or more, you may request these two pictures and we will gladly send them to you. The following was written by Dr. J. R. Faulkner from Get a Glimpse of the Worlds Largest Church - 1973 Dr. Lee Roberson, loyal pastor of the Highland Park Baptist Church, and founder and president of Tennessee Temple Schools in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is worldrenowned in religious circles. He was born in a two-room log cabin on November 24, 1909, and spent his first two years on a farm near English, Indiana, a small town in the southern part of the state. In 1911, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Roberson, took him to a farm near Louisville, Kentucky, where his father farmed, worked on streetcars, and built homes to make a living. At the age of fourteen, he was led to the Lord by his faithful Sunday School teacher, Mrs. Daisy Hawes and joined the Cedar Creek Baptist Church outside of Louisville. After spending two years at the Louisville Male High School, where he received a diploma in public accounting when he was fourteen years old, Dr. Roberson then attended the Fern Creek High School and was graduated after four years. While a student, he played football with the high school team.

Brother Roberson entered Old Bethel College in Russellville, Kentucky in 1926, and finished the first year. There he worked at various jobs from washing dishes to scrubbing floors to pay his way. From Old Bethel College, he went to the University of Louisville to complete his college work with a major in history. He also completed his work for a degree at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. At the age of nineteen, he was called to a church in Jeffersontown, Kentucky, which he did not accept. In his early years, Dr. Roberson was well known as a singer. Having studied at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and with the well-known teacher, John Samples, of Chicago, his services as a vocalist were in great demand. He served as a soloist on the staff of radio station WHAS of Louisville, Kentucky, and WSM out of Nashville, Tennessee. Doors were opening in the field of secular music. Dr. Roberson could have signed a contract with a certain man in the city of Nashville that, no doubt, would have led him to the top in music. However, he felt that this was not the thing the Lord wanted for him; so he refused to sign the contract. The first church that Brother Roberson served as pastor was in Germantown,

(Continued from page 4) DOES JESUS UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH?

He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

His mother and step dad were not royalty, but just good people. Jesus was just like us and He showed us how to live an acceptable life for God. He put Himself in our place, so we would know that He understands, You may feel like nobody understands, but dont forget about Jesus. He knows all about it!
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

Read slowly through these verses and just look at what Jesus endured at the hands of mankind. He did this for us! Why? Because He loved us. How much do we love the people we serve? The very people Jesus served, rejected Him, hid their faces from Him and gave Him no respect, yet He did not turn back from the mission He had set out to accomplish. He didnt let who man was, change who He was! While He was under the burden of our sins, man accused Him of being smitten of God! Have you ever been falsely accused? Jesus knows what that is like, but it didnt change Him. Jesus also endured false judgment, which brought bodily pain. Most of us have never suffered bodily harm while doing the will of God, but many have and we may one day. Will we receive it the way Jesus did? No one stood with Him. Everyone turned to his own way and left Him to work alone. Did you ever feel like no one cared? Jesus knows what that feels like. He did it for you and for me. Jesus had done nothing wrong and there was no guilt on His part, yet He carried the load and did not complain. He opened not His mouth!!! He knew He was going to die and yet He opened not His mouth. What about us? We just have to have the last word. Jesus opened His mouth plenty while He was preaching and teaching, but this was a time to keep quiet. Do we know when to keep quite? We find ourselves just wanting to tell them what we think of them, even though it usually just adds to our division. Jesus didnt feel He had to justify Himself, because His life spoke for Him. Our walk talks louder than our talk talks. I am afraid that our tongue kills those we are supposed to HELP. If we are to become powerful servants of God, we had better take a close look at Jesus and LEARN from His example.
And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

How did it please the Father to let Jesus suffer? Jesus was paying the debt of our sins. Jesus was doing for us what we could not do for ourselves and the Father was pleased because of what it would accomplish. The Father is pleased with what we suffer in order to rescue others also. Woman was created to be a help meet. Jesus mission was to present Himself a sacrifice for our sins, so we could be united with the Father. Our job is to meet the needs of mankind and help to complete their lives. Too often woman is concerned first for her own life and by the time she gets around to serving others, she is frustrated and irritable. I challenge you to place your life in Christs hands and let Him bring your life about, while you encourage and help others to give their lives to Him also. I can give my every waking moment to others, because I know that Christ is busy working with my life, bringing my hearts desires to pass. OTHERS! What can we do for others? The hardest people to serve are those you live with. When your husband and your children rise up and call you blessed, then you know that Christ is working through you. How much do you sacrifice for those God has given you to serve? Christ died for us. Can we die to our flesh for our loved ones? He that loseth his life SHALL find it. BUT, he that keepeth his life SHALL lose it.
Let go and let God have His wonderful way. Let go and let God have His way. Your burdens will vanish, your night turn to day, Let go and let God have His way.

Tennessee, while he was going to college. In 1932, he was called to be pastor of the Temple Baptist Church in Green Brier, Tennessee. It was there that he discovered the truth of the second coming of Christ. After three years with the Green Brier Church, where the Lord wonderfully blessed, Dr. Roberson entered full-time evangelistic work in 1935. He served as evangelist of the Birmingham Baptist Association; and within two years, he conducted some fifty revivals in the Birmingham area. It was while he was in Birmingham that he met Miss Caroline Allen, who, on October 9, 1937, became Mrs. Lee Roberson. On the first Sunday in November, 1937, Dr. Roberson became pastor of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield, Alabama. In 1939, Brother Roberson was asked to be the state evangelist for Alabama. He felt this was not the Lords will for him at the time, so the offer was not accepted. On May 2, 1941, Lee Anne, the Robersons oldest child, was born. After five years with the Fairfield church, Dr. Roberson was called to the Highland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in November of 1942. Brother Roberson, who was our pastor, was a man of God at home as well as at church. He set an example of faithfulness and devotion to his family and to his convictions before his church and to the entire world. At home, he sought to teach his children in the fear and admonition of the Lord around a daily family altar, which has reflected itself in the lives of the children. Dr. Robersons devotion to duty and to his convictions laid upon him a demanding schedule that caused him, throughout his life, to get up early and to burn the midnight oil in prayer and study of the Word of God and the writings of others that he might maintain his burden to reach as many souls for Christ as he could, by every possible means. New sermons were constantly pouring from his soul and new books from his pen. Whether he was speaking from the pulpit of the Highland Park Baptist Church, the chapel platform of Tennessee Temple Schools, to his Mens Bible Class, or at one of many other special services, his messages were always fresh, fervent, and filled with the power of God. In speaking of him, someone has said, He was truly the Spurgeon of our times. Dr. Robersons daily schedule began with Bible study and prayer at 6:30 in the morning, followed by breakfast and devotions with his family, a hour-long broadcast beginning at 8:30 a.m., and a chapel service at Tennessee Temple Schools at 10:00. His morning hours were also filled with private conferences with church people and students of Tennessee Temple Schools. His daily visitation program took him into the numerous hospitals of the city as well as homes of the church members. We praise the Lord for the way in which He blessed Dr. Robersons ministry here

On July 2nd, the Continental Congress voted in favor of Lees resolution for independence in a near-unanimous vote (the New York delegation abstained, but later voted affirmatively). On that day, John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail that July 2 will be celebrated, by succeeding generations, as the great anniversary Festival and that the celebration should include Pomp and Parade...Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other. On July 4th, the Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence, which had been written largely by Jefferson. Though the vote for actual independence took place on July 2nd, from then on the 4th became the day that was celebrated as the birth of American independence.
One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex was staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer of the church. It was covered with names, and small American flags were mounted on either side of it. The seven year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the little boy, and said quietly, Good morning, Alex. Good morning, Pastor, replied the young man, still focused on the plaque. Pastor, what is this? Well, son, its a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service. Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large plaque. Little Alexs voice was barely audible, trembling with fear, when he asked, Which service, the 9:45 or the 11:15?

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword; His truth is marching on. I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps; I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps; His day is marching on. I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel; As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal; Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel, Since God is marching on. He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat; Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet; Our God is marching on. In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me: As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free; While God is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.
