Welcome to WritePoint, the automated review system that recognizes errors most commonly made by university students in academic essays. The system embeds comments into your paper and suggests possible changes in grammar and style. Please evaluate each comment carefully to ensure that the suggested change is appropriate for your paper, but remember that your instructor's preferences for style and format prevail. You will also need to review your own citations and references since WritePoint capability in this area is limited. NOTE: WritePoint comments are computer-generated writing and grammar suggestions inviting the consideration and analysis of the writer; they are not infallible statements of right/wrong, and they should not be used as grading elements. Also, at present, WritePoint cannot detect quotations or block-quotes, so comments in those areas should be ignored. Please see the other helpful writing resources in the Tutorials and Guides section of the Center for Writing Excellence. Thank you for using WritePoint.

Reflection [Make sure paragraph indentation is five to seven spaces or one tab stop] Summary Last week we [Use "we," "us," or "our" to mean yourself and coauthors, not general humanity (or yourself and the reader)] have learned about the correct mind thinking and structure someone should have when first opening up a business. The main key point is staying focus, just like the two ladies in the story did with their new coffee shop business. To have the right and correct mind set while building and structuring a business is a key factor to [Incorrect word--in] stay in business, be profitable and [in academic writing, if this is a series, place a comma before the final conjunction (and)] [Insert a comma before this word if this is the last in a list of more than two -- or if it begins a new clause] have success in the business place. What was really [Writing suggestion--"real" or "really" means "existing in actuality"--it adds little to the meaning (and using it to mean "big," "very," or "genuine" is slang); replace it with a more expressive word] interesting and useful from last week was

Using the SWOT analysis, for example will help us analyze our potential for growth in a business and even in daily life. Implementing strategic, tactical, and operational planning is more in depth [As an adjective, these two words are hyphenated] and requires a larger amount of detail to make a plan. We have learned that the opportunity to learn in detail how companys functions determine the structure of its different departments because of the need to specialized tasks forces to achieve goals within the finance, marketing, sales, human resources and [in academic writing, if this is a series, place a comma before the final conjunction (and)] other departments that need a specific structure to help achieve the companys overall [Wordiness: unless meaning denim work clothes, "overall" is general and vague and contributes little to the sentence] goal. [Writing suggestion: If this sentence is as long as 50 or more words, it can be confusing with logic twists, recursions, or long lists. Cut it into shorter sentences featuring one idea. Shorter sentences are easier to comprehend] We have learned that organizations benefit from these structures because they manage to bring together great people that [Check word usage--If this word refers to a human being, people are never "that" or "which," they are "who"] share similar skills and knowledge, which brings success to the organization. On another note we have learned that the different structure of functions would depend on not only the size of the organization but also of the services or products it provides. In the past experience [Redundancy: what else can "experience" be but that which occurred earlier? Leave out "past"] we have been fortunate to work in large corporations where [If not referring to a place, instead of "where," use "which" or "in which"] department functions were specific to achieve a part of the companys overall goals. weeks readings revolved around organizational agility, human resource [A "human resource" is a single person; written in plural, "human resources" is the personnel office ] management, and planning as a management function. We found the material of this weeks reading to be very interesting because we can apply it to our personal life [Use "our personal lives"] as well as future professional careers. The chapter that we found to be the most interesting was Chapter ten [Express numbers higher than nine in digits (when not the first word in the sentence)] because it goes into depth about the job duties and functions of an HR manager or specialist. Learning about all [Writing suggestion: "All" or "all of" used as an intensifier very often can be removed with no loss of meaning] that goes into considering which applicants to choose, how much to pay is very interesting and [Run-on sentence: Insert comma before "and" if the following is an independent clause (not part of a series)] we never really knew how complex the issue could be. For example, sometimes when we call to check on a job application the HR manager may state that the position will be filled [Passive voice ] internally (very discouraging to hear); but we realize that they do this for reason. We have also learned that establishing mission, vision, and goals is very important to the success of any business of any size or scale. A business must have a sense of mission or shared sense of goal to play a significant role in all aspects of the daily work, like growth of the business. The leader of the organization mush hold the companys vision high for all to recognize, constantly expand on it and continuously [Check spelling: "Continuous" means continuing unceasingly, constantly, all day and night; "continual" means frequent but not
