Baruch College
In 1968, the school became an independent senior college in the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Today, a thriving, urban, multicultural institution and a senior ollege of CUNY, Baruch attracts motivated students of proven achievement who are seriously committed to making their dreams a reality. Their ability and drive, along with the superb, professional education for which Baruch is known, have established the Colleges national and international reputation for excellence. In providing opportunities for these students, the College sustains the original mission of the Free Academy and the City University, adapting that mission to the needs of New York City, once a commercial hub, now a global corporate and financial powerhouse. Baruch offers undergraduate and graduate programs of study through its three schools: the Zicklin School of Business, the largest and one of the most respected business schools in the world. Named a flagship institution within the City University system, the School of Public Affairs is widely recognized for its teaching, research, and service in the areas of municipal government, non-profit administration, policy analysis and evaluation, health care policy, and educational administration. About Bernard M. Baruch Bernard Baruch graduated from the City College of New York and worked as a broker before becoming a partner at A. Housman and Company. With his earnings and commissions, he bought a seat on the New York Stock Exchange for $18,000. There he amassed a fortune before the age of thirty via speculation in the sugar market. In 1903 he had his own brokerage firm and had gained the reputation of The Lone Wolf on Wall Street because of his refusal to join any other financial house. By 1910, he had become one of Wall Streets financial leaders. After his success in business, he devoted his time toward advising Democratic presidents Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D. Roosevelt on economic matters. In 1946 he was appointed the United States representative to the United Nations Atomic Energy Commission (UNAEC) by President Harry S. Truman. Bernard Baruch was the first to coin the term Cold War in reference to the conflict between United States and the Soviet Union while giving a speech on April 16, 1947. As a renowned financier, shrewd investor, statesman, and presidential adviser, he was on the cover of TIME magazine a total of three times in his life.
Baruch College is part of a tradition that dates 160 years to the founding, in 1847, of the Free Academy, the very first free public institution of higher education in the nation. (Baruchs landmark building at 23rd Street and Lexington Avenue occupies the site of the Free Academy). Established in 1919 as City Colleges School of Business and Civic Administration, it was renamed in 1953 in honor of Bernard M. Baruch statesman, financier, and devoted alumnus. Baruch College is today, one of the top senior colleges in the City University of New York.

Wisdom
During my eighty-seven years, I have witnessed a whole succession of technological revolutions. But none of them has done away with the need for character in the individual or the ability to think. Millions saw the apple fall, but Newton was the one who asked why. Most of the successful people Ive known are the ones who do more listening than talking. Never follow the crowd. The art of living lies not in eliminating but in growing with troubles.
Famous quotes by Mr.Bernard Baruch

If you take the present value of my compensation since graduating form Baruch and divide it by the cost of my education, the value proposition of a Baruch education is clear. My contribution to the college cannot even make a dent in everything Baruch has done for me.

Learning needs Each subject is context-oriented: students constantly use their class experience to improve their decision-making skills in their work environment and in evaluating their career objectives. Diversity Admission is highly exclusive, while each cohort (class) enrolls no more than 50 students, the variety of educational, business, professionals, and international backgrounds leads to lively discussions with the widest range of viewpoints and expertise. Cohort Design Incoming classes are titled cohorts; all members of the cohort remain together throughout the 18-month program. It is a lockstep curriculum with electives decided by the university. Transfer credits from other colleges or universities are not accepted.

The Executive MBA Program offers me the challenge of combining theory with application because of the level of experience and maturity of the students in the program. I have the opportunity to learn from the students in addition to teaching them.

Advice to Incoming Students "Take advantage of the activities outside of the classroom. This will give you an opportunity to discuss what you are learning and bring the theories to the real world." On Zicklin's Curriculum "One of my favorite things about the core courses is the fact that some are in subjects I have never taken - like finance. I love that I knew very little about it beforehand and within weeks of starting the course I can read the Wall Street Journal like nobody's business!" On Zicklin Students"To say it is diverse is an understatement. It's great when you are in a class and hear perspectives from Asia, Europe and New York!" On Fun Moments"Finals week - two tests down, two to go - we were in a study room at the library and just could not stop laughing. I don't even remember what we were laughing about but I think the stress, lack of sleep and poor eating habits of the past week had gotten to us...and we just couldn't stop laughing. I think it helped to de-stress us and get us ready for the tests to come." On Leadership "Good leadership includes strong self-awareness and strong group-awareness. It is being able to share a vision with others and inspire them to your cause, work ethic or the like."

Corporate Sponsorship
When an organization sponsors you for the Baruch, they are making a strategic decision to invest and groom you as part of their leadership succession and talent management program. There are numerous benefits to a company when they sponsor their management or senior executive into our program. Some of the benefits include. The program will strengthen your understanding in the specific discipline which will enhance your future development needs and enhance your job competence. Organizations that display commitment to their people tend to achieve greater commitment from them. By sponsoring you, your organization will be contributing to your own commitment levels. By applying the principles and techniques you have learned you will lead to greater benefits and returns for your organization. Given the intensive structure of the EMBA program, the skills and competencies developed are much more conducive to transfer into concrete job performance changes. Because the course structure is intensive you will be in position to apply your skills immediately at work. Through this enhanced transferability the program is likely to be more cost effective. You will spend much less time away from work than you would in most other Masters programs because of the intensive course structure. Most of the tuition fee is tax deductible for your employer, so the real cost is much less than it first appears. In short, the long term benefits in leadership and management capabilities will far outweigh the investment made.
