It can be difficult to take the first steps in a sometimes confusing process such as estate planning. If this sentiment represents how you feel, we can help. Whether young, old, rich, or just comfortable, you have an estate. It includes your home, business, savings, retirement plan, life insurance proceeds, and those important personal items that have been accumulated as a result of your labor and Gods blessings. Planning for distribution of your estate at death, in harmony with Gods plan of stewardship, is one of the most important decisions you will make. Plan it carefully and prayerfully. To do so, you need to be informed about such things as income and estate taxes, probate, when to use a will versus a revocable living trust, charitable trusts, and many other complex issues of estate planning. First Baptist Church Naples has a program in place that will help with your estate planning needs. The Estate Plan Organizer is an information gathering tutorial that will walk you through your estate planning values and goals in about 30 minutes. Complete yours today! Visit www.fbcnlegacy.org/epo. If you dont have internet access, please call 800-876-7958 and tell them you are with First Baptist Church Naples.

Investing in Our Children

As you have learned, what counts also costs. A recent article noted that for $235,000 you can buy a new Ferrari car or raise an American child for 17 years. Naturally, that does not include the increasing cost of college. A government report found that a middle-income family with a child born last year will spend around $235,000 in child-related expenses from birth through age 17, a 3.5 percent increase from 2010. According to the Agriculture Departments Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, housing is the single largest expense, averaging about 30% of that total amount. Those in the urban south and rural areas of our nation face the lowest cost, while those in the northeast tend to have the highest expenses. There are many unforeseen costs, but you can certainly count on expenditures with transportation, clothing, food, education, health care, and child care. Hopefully, these statistics will not be an incentive for abortions but for priority planning, saving, and investment. Children are made in the image of God and not only matter to Him, but can be a great blessing to the world. As Christians, we believe that being fruitful and multiplying is not only a part of Gods original plan in Genesis, but is also blessed in this present age. Truly, Children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward (Psalm 127:3). Though there are tears, travails, and trials in child-raising, Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting; he who goes to and fro weeping, carrying his bag of seed shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him (Psalm 126:5, 6). That is true in the home and the church. When you consider the recent statistics and costs in the U.S., the expenses of our church and academy operating budgets concerning preschool, children, and student ministries are well worth the investment. God calls us not to sow sparingly but generously so that we may reap generously; He supplies seed to the sower and bread for food (2 Corinthians 9:6, 10). Please continue to give to the Lord through His church, not for the sake of toys but truth, not in a spirit of indulgence but investment, knowing that the ministry of your service is supplying the needs of the saints (2 Corinthians 9:12). Faithful giving in the summer when we are most involved with children and youth ministries is strategic, smart, and biblical.
