Bring your Dog with You on Vacation

Getting an animal, be it a mouse or a moose, on an airplane today can be more inconvenient that getting yourself on one. Your pet may not have to take his shoes off and be groped or scanned, but he will be limited by his age, size, breed, health, destination and multiple other arbitrary factors, including the weather. Flying a pet can be expensive and is not without hazards for him. Consider carefully whether your pet travels for his pleasure and benefit, or just for yours. Check with your airline, as in general, only cats and toy dogs may accompany passengers in the cabin, while larger dogs and other species must travel with the checked baggage in the hold. Some

Ashleigh and Pudsey perform their winning routine on Britains Got Talent However, Miss Butler, a schoolgirl from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, told how the win had quickly gone to Pudseys head, admitting he had become very diva-ish and had been demanding steak dinners. The teenager trained the dog to jump, dance on his hind legs, and weave between her knees, culminating in their final routine set to the music of Mission Impossible.

Responding to their win, an overjoyed Cowell said: My lifes work is now complete. Pudsey who was escorted by three security guards at the ITV studios has had his name trademarked by Cow-

Finding the Best German Shepherd

The German shepherd is the "world's leading police, guard and military dog," according to the American Kennel Club, but the breed can also be a loyal and loving family pet, show dog and herder. Originating in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1899, the German shepherd is often considered the king of dogs by its fanciers and is consistently one of the most popular breeds registered with the AKC. Selecting the right German shepherd puppy is important if you want a happy and healthy dog and depends a great deal on your preparations and ability to recognize a trustworthy breeder. Make sure you research the breed. Be certain you understand the German shepherd dog's physical characteristics and temperament, exercise and training needs, and any health issues that may be a problem in the breed. Once you've gathered all the information, assess whether the breed will be a good match for you, your home and lifestyle.

Its Summer, Teach your Dog to Swim

Most dogs are not born knowing how to swim. Even the water retrievers, such as Labradors and Chesapeake Bay retrievers, must learn how to swim as puppies or young adults. Training a dog to swim is not necessarily a difficult task, but it does require a willing dog and water deep enough that the dog cannot touch bottom with his feet. Given their physical capability and mental capacity, many dogs can learn to swim in a lesson or two. Allow your dog to approach the water gradually. Let him sniff the water and lap at it as he desires, as long as it is not chlorinated pool water. Put your dogs life jacket, collar and vest on him. Allow him a few minutes to walk around with his jacket on until he is relaxed and wagging his tail. Walk your dog into the water gradually, leading him and coaxing him as needed. Keep your Yorkie Clean And Healthy

Keeping your dog's body clean, comfortable and healthy requires grooming. Dog grooming includes providing dogs with baths, nail and dental care, and hair brushing and combing. Some breeds such as the Yorkshire terrier require daily brushing and time-consuming grooming. Hair clipping is necessary so the dog's nonshedding hair does not grow too long. The American Kennel Club describes Yorkshire terriers or Yorkies as energetic, determined, brave and curious. These feisty little dogs adapt well to many types of homes and lifestyles, as long as they experience frequent, loving interaction with their humans. Step 1:Brush your companions teeth thoroughly and regularly with soft pettoothbrush or finger brush and dog toothpaste. Cleaning her teeth should be a regular part of grooming your dog. The Yorkshire terrier and other toy breeds tend to have dental problems, so be vigilant about brushing and checking your companions teeth and gums. Because some Yorkshire terriers form a lot of tartar on their teeth, they are and around your Yorkie's ears. Keep the fur between your dog's toes short. This is important because burrs and sharp grass seeds will stick to long toe fur and lead to serious problems. Having your veterinarian or a groomer trim your dog's toenails is safer than attempting to do it yourself and risk injuries that can be very painful for your dog.

prone to premature tooth loss, so take her for professional dental check-ups and cleaning. Keep your dogs ears clean, but never use cotton swabs. As part of the grooming process, examine her ears by looking inside for any redness or discharge and smelling them for any unpleasant odor, as this may be a sign of infection and require a visit to your veterinarian.
