Communications Experiment 1 Amplitude Shift Keying Scratch Analysis: ASK Modeling with Dual Analog Switch: The Message

age is in Digital Sequence of 1 or 0. As long the state is 1, Dual Analog Switch permits the flow of Carrier Signal; otherwise the amplitude is at 0 volts. Now ASK is Produced. Carrier signal can be obtained from Master Signal Module, Audio Oscillator, or even VCO as long as its frequency is higher than the message signal and it is at Audio Range. In band limiting, the jagged discontinuities are rounded off; this can be applied to a modulated signal or transmitted digital message before the transmission. In this Experiment, LPF can be used to band limit the message signal before or after modulation. ASK Modelling with Multiplier: The method of modulation is the same as Amplitude Modulation except that the message is in digital form. The Carrier Frequency at this method is not limited to Audio range, as for this experiment, the carrier frequency used in modeling with multiplier is 100 kHz. Yet, the Message frequency should also need to be below the carrier frequency. Envelope Demodulation: Easiest way of demodulation. The performance of an envelope detector is limited by the relative amplitudes of the signal being demodulated (bigger is better). Extracted Message was distorted.

Synchronous Demodulation: Less distortion was observed compared to envelope demodulation. But still, the output was not a copy of the original message signal. Phase Sensitive. If the phase of the modulated carrier and the regenerated carrier in the demodulation is 90 degrees the detector output was be zero.

Conclusion (further analysis is needed): Based on the experiment, modeling with Multiplier is better than Dual Analog Switch since the range of carrier frequency that can be used on Multiplier was not limited to Audio Range while Dual Analog Switch was limited to a maximum frequency of 300 kHz. In Demodulation, Both Demodulation Techniques have their advantages but both are still not good enough to extract the original message signal. Further Regeneration is needed to recreate the Message Signal.
