NIKE :Introduction :The company was founded on January 25, 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports by Bill Bowerman and Knight, and officially became Nike, Inc. on May 30, 1978. The company takes its name from Nike , the Greek goddess of victory. Nike markets its products under its own brand, as well as Nike Golf, Nike Pro, Nike+, Air Jordan, Nike Skateboarding, and subsidiaries including Cole Haan, Hurley International, Umbro and Converse. Nike also owned Bauer Hockey (later renamed Nike Bauer) between 1995 and 2008. In addition to manufacturing sportswear and equipment, the company operates retail stores under the Niketown name. Nike sponsors many high profile athletes and sports teams around the world, with the highly recognized trademarks of "Just do it" and the Swoosh logo. Nike, Inc. is a major publicly traded sportswear and equipment supplier based in the United States. The company is headquartered near Beaverton, Oregon, which is part of the Portland metropolitan area. It is the world's leading supplier of athletic shoes and apparel and a major manufacturer of sports equipment, with revenue in excess of US$18.6 billion in its fiscal year 2008 (ending May 31, 2008). As of 2008, it employed more than 30,000 people worldwide. Nike and Precision Castparts are the only Fortune 500 companies headquartered in the state of Oregon, according to The Oregonian.

When Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman made this observation many years ago, he was defining how he viewed the endless possibilities for human potential in sports. He set the tone and direction for a young company created in 1972, called Nike, and today those same words inspire a new generation of Nike employees. It started with a handshake between two visionary Oregonians - Bowerman and
his University of Oregon runner Phil Knight. They and the people they hired evolved and grew the company that became Nike from a U.S.-based footwear distributor to a global marketer of athletic footwear, apparel and equipment that is unrivaled in the world. Nike goal is to carry on his legacy of innovative thinking, whether to develop products that help athletes of every level of ability reach their potential, or to create business opportunities that set Nike apart from the competition and provide value for our shareholders. Our world headquarters is located near Beaverton, Oregon, a suburb of Portland. So while the Pacific Northwest is the birthplace to Nike, today we operate in more than 160 countries around the globe. Through our suppliers, shippers, retailers and other service providers, we directly or indirectly employ nearly one million people. That includes more than 35,000 Nike employees across six continents, each of whom make their own contribution to fulfill our mission statement: to bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete* in the world.

Diversity and Inclusion:-

The mission is to harness diversity and inclusion to inspire ideas and ignite innovation. Most companies embrace diversity. Not Nike. Nike soak it up. Nike squeezes it out. We want it to drip over everything Nike does. Because without diversity of opinion, diversity of background, diversity of perspective, the Idea grows fallow. Or worse, it vanishes altogether. The mission is to harness diversity and inclusion to inspire ideas and ignite innovation. And you know as well as anyone: if there is no Idea, there is no Nike. To accomplish this mission, the D&I team: Shares the fundamentals of diversity and inclusion to build awareness and understanding Uses diversity and inclusion to inspire new ideas Encourages connections between unlikely players

Nike Athletic Training:- Sneaker News is live on the scene out in the Bay Area for
Nikes Athletic Training 2010 Media Showcase, and day 2 of the trip started strong with a special preview of the brands performance training footwear for 2010. A quick bus ride over the Bay Bridge into Oakland brought us to the doors of well-known recording studio, The Zoo, chosen to house the Nike Training footwear display. With all the creative forces that have passed through the building over the years, it was fitting that the spot was chosen to show off some of Nikes most ambitious performance designs to date.

Nike is a strong advocate of creating market-driven incentives as a primary driver of change. We know we cannot solve the challenges that face us on our own. We believe that collaboration - with manufacturers, governments, industry partners and key stakeholders - will help generate solutions that will change the system for the better. Nike's evolving approach to addressing working conditions within our supply chain mirrors the evolution within the broader corporate responsibility movement. Since Nike began their supply chain work, they've run the course - from establishing a code of conduct and pulling together an internal team to enforce it, to working with external bodies to monitor factories and engage with stakeholders.

Retail Management Competitors:On the basis of companies :As aforementioned Nike has been able to change the performance apparel market drastically. It changed the culture in regard to tennis shoes, making them a cultural phenomenon that has affected the globe. Nikes main competitors are Reebok and Adidas, with both constantly struggling to carve out a bigger pie of Nikes share in the sports market. Because of Nikes large brand awareness competitors have had to put more effort in their attempts to sell products and also new entrants must have substantial capital in order to become a major player, hence this limits the amount of entrants into the market. The other competitors for the nike is:-

Adidas Puma Reebok Lotto All star Campus Action

On the basis Of category:- Nike produces a wide range of sports equipment. Their first

While the product generates useful statistics, it has been criticized by researchers who were able to identify users' RFID devices from 60 feet (18 m) away using small, concealable intelligence motes in a wireless sensor network. In 2004, they launched the SPARQ Training Program/Division. Some of Nike's newest shoes contain Flywire and Lunarlite Foam to reduce weight.

Retail Management What Model Stock Plan is ? A model stock plan means a predetermined assortment of
merchandise which is in proper balance to the sales of the store. If the model stock plan were perfect, it would include the exact quantities of the right sorts of goods in relation to the desired rate of stock turnover for the store. In other words, if the estimates were entirely correct in the model stock plan, the merchant would sell all the goods projected in the plan, and in doing so, he would get exactly the stock turnover rate for which he had planned.

This means that the retailer would have projected in advance the right quantities materials, styles, sizes, colors, price lines, and brands to buy, and that these goods would sell rapidly enough to yield the desired rate of stock turnover. But this assumes a model stock plan for the entire store. In reality, the progressive retailer not in frequently set ups a model stock plan for each of his departments. If these various model stock plans be combined, however, it is possible to think of them as a master model stock plan for the store.

Need of Model Stock Plans for Small Stores:- Most small merchants need model
stock plans as aids to their buying, especially in a buyers market. For if they do not have such guides, they purchase too much on the basis of crude guesses, hunches, their personal likes and dislikes, and the opinions of salesmen from whom they buy. Most small merchant need model stock plan as aids to their buying, especially in a buyers market. For if they do not have such guides, they purchase too much on the basis of crude guesses, hunches, their personal likes and dislikes, and the opinions of the salesman from whom they buy. This statement may be illustrated by examples drawn from small stores which make no use of model stock plans. Retailers would have projected in advanced the right quantities, qualities, materials, styles, size, color, price line, and brands to buy, and these goods would sell rapidly enough to yield the deserved rate of stock turnover. But this assumes a model stock plan for the entire store.

Conclusion:- In a surprise finding that organized retail is growing faster than expected in
India, a study has forecast that this segment could account for a quarter of the total retail revenues by 2011 from the current 8 per cent share. The study has been done by accounting firm Deloitte Haskins and Sells. Indias retail industry, both organized and unorganized, is worth $295 billion at present. A February study by Mumbai-based brokerage Edelweiss Capital had said that organized retail would form 15 per cent of the retail sales by March 2011 from 4.1 per cent now. But Deloittes study says that organized retail grew at a scorching pace in 2007, going to 8 per cent of total retail sales from 5 per cent in 2006. New stores, more spending power and access to credit had led to organized retails 50 per cent growth in 2007, said Shyamak Tata, partner at Deloitte who did the research. Several large retailers including US-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc and UKs Marks and Spencer Plc have announced plans for the Indian market, spurred by this explosive growth. But organized retails march has been checked to some extent by protests from Indias small retailers, who form the backbone of retail in Indiain the dominantly unorganized sector. They argue that large retailers would gain market share at their expense. Some retailers scaled back plans in the face of opposition from small retailers and legislation in some states that large retailers would have to pay a tax on food and grocery sold in their stores or a share in their profits.
