Cannabis, also known as marijuana


- is the most commonly abused illicit drug in the United States The main active chemical in marijuana is delta-9tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, for short.

History of prohibition

1860 - Regulations and restrictions on the sale of Cannabis sativa as a drug 1906 -Increased restrictions and labeling of cannabis as a poison began in many states 1920s - outright prohibitions began in the US mid-1930s Cannabis was regulated as a drug in every state. 1970s, many places in the United States started to abolish state laws and other local regulations that banned possession or sale of cannabis
