Objectives of the study

To compute the financial position of the ONGC

To analyze the profitability and solvency position of the company

for the past 5 years. To examine the Liquidity position of the company. To analyze the efficiency of the firm through ratios. To suggest ways and means to improve the present condition. To compare the performance of ONGC with its competitors To have a comparative interpretation of the ratios and their effective uses in the company.

Need for the study

In order to judge profits and financial soundness of the company. The financial analysis are the mirrors, which reflect the financial positions and operating strength or weakness of the concern.

Better understanding of a firms position and performance.

Scope of the study

The scope of the project is To study the financial performance of ONGC for a past period of 5 years i.e. from 2006-07 to 2010-11 To study the comparative financial analysis of ONGC with OIL India and Reliance for the duration of 2006-07 to 2010- 2011.

Limitations of the study

This study mainly depends on the Secondary data i.e., Annual reports of ONGC. Operating and Financial performance of the company is analyzed, using 5 years data alone. The Study does not consider the time value of money. The validity of analysis and suggestions depends on the financial statements and reports alone, provided by the company.
