ANALYSIS

To begin with I analysed all genres (pop, rock, electro, alternative and R n B) looking at typical conventions and the specific audience the artists aimed at. I was keen to get an audience for my video which was the same age as myself so I could relate to them. Electro is one of my favourite genres and teenagers/young adults tend to be regular listeners. Artists I focused on were: Alt-J, Owl City, Plan B, Dizzee Rascal Chase and Status I also focused on the TV series Skis as it relflects many of the characters within the music videos I studied.

CONVENTIONS OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC VIDEOS

Flashing lights- strobes are often featured within electro music videos helping to portray how the characters often feel. Close ups- You can identify clear images and states of character. Special colour effects- Mixture of coloured lights helps to evoke a party atmosphere and the use of drugs from the actors point of view. Establishing shots- help to establish the setting in which characters are featuring. Drug and drink influence- electro is often played at parties therefore many of the audience will be under the influence of drink and possible drugs, therefore the audience can relate to the character. Dancing/parties- typical location for electro to be played. No presence of artist- usually a focus on a character to show them to be deteriating rather than the artist themselves.

LET YOU GO CHASE AND STATUS Watch Here

Why I have chose this particular track
From audience research I found electro was one of the most popular genres It has elements of storytelling in the original, so reflects the lyrics are effective I enjoy the track and am keen on elements of storytelling videos myself.

The angle will I come from

Watching the characters like deteriate. From childhoodcurrent day

STORYLINE

We will see the characters life crumble after the separation of her parents- I have chosen this crisis due to the fact it is a common problem in todays society. Throughout the video the audience will see old flashbacks of her childhood, helping to contrast to her life now. She will get involved in drink and drugs causing her to be disowned by her parents. Specific shots and imagery will help to portray how she is feeling.
Eventually she will result in drowning herself .

LOCATION

Depression is a common theme of throughout my piece therefore my locations must reflect this. Run down flats (squatting) Home location (conflict with parents) Parks (isolation) Fields (isolation)

COSTUME

The costume of my character will vary from setting to setting. Whilst living with her parents we will see fairly normal clothing of a teenager (skinny jeans, bright coloured sweater and pumps) However when she gets kicked out she will be wearing plain clothes to reflect what she has lost. When abusing the use of alchohol and drugs I will also use makeup to help show her state. Eg dark eyes and lips, pale face etc.

ACTRESS

From studying episodes of Skins I thought the characters within the series reflected how I wanted my character to be portrayed. I played particular attention to the character Mini due to the separation of her parents being the brink of her downfall to getting into drugs, pregnant etc. My sister Ellie reflects the image of Mini, long blonde curly hair and blue eyes this means it will be easy to manipulate conventions of Mini
Typical traits of Mini: -blonde long hair -blue eyes -popular -parents seperation -drug and alcohol abuse -smokes -love for dub step music -constant getting into trouble

SPECIAL EFFECTS/LIGHTING

Lighting: Due to the track being a partylike song, lighting effects such as strobes could be involved. Strobes are also a useful technique to represent to the audience how the actors are feeling in a drunk or drugged state. It is also likely to be dark as the lyrics reflect going into a low time of your life. Fisheye Lens: similar to Bonkers video, helps evoke a drug state Rewinding of clips: help portray ideas that she wishes she could go back in time.

SYMBOLISM

Throughout my video I would like connotations of depression and feeling down to be jotted throughout the video. Taps: suicide- drowning himself, Water: symbolises freedom, something that she wants to feel. Toys: a happy childhood. Dark lighting; reflect her mood Flashbacks: contrast to her life now Rewinding of clips: Wants to go back how her life was Flashing lights: Drugged. Smashing glass: life shattered before eyes. (close up shot) Red: Anger
