Leadership
Leadership is influencing the activities of people in its efforts towards goal setting and goal achievement. Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal.
The task of the leader is to get his/her people from where they are to where they have not been.

Biography
Born: February 12, 1809. Birthplace: Near Hodgenville, Kentucky. Died: April 15, 1865 (assassination). Best Known As: The Civil war President.
Lincoln's parents were uneducated, illiterate farmers. His formal education consisted of perhaps 18 months of schooling from unofficial teachers. In effect he was self-educated, studying every book he could borrow He mastered the Bible, William Shakespeare's works, English history and American history. He avoided hunting and fishing and spent much of his time reading.
Career
Abraham Lincoln is an ambiguous figure in history and literature. He possessed a great sense of humor. Under his leadership and largely because of it, U.S. completed the implementation of the promise that was contained in the Declaration of Independence. Lincoln not only had that deep feeling about the founding and its principles, but he also recognized what we might call the transitional role of the President, as the leader of the country, in passing on these critical values to future generations.

He tended to be strikingly flexible while, at the same time, a model of consistency. He had the courage to carry with him to the White House his main strategy of simply ignoring slander. He had good communication with the people. He behaved Open-Mindedly. He would see as many people as often as he possibly could. He spent 75% of his time among the people.
Lincoln was a natural leader. Lincoln was a natural wanderer. Lincoln was a team management style leader.

Lincoln was compelled to unify the nation by force of arms, and he also sought to unify the people themselves emotionally by patience, compassion, and persuasion.

Inspirational Motivation
Lincoln had the communication ability to persuade and influence his people. His communication served as motivation, value-shaping and aligned people toward goals. He communicated his expectations by writing letters and telling stories.
He also persuaded people in private conversations. Both ways helped build spirit and let people become committed to the vision.
Through various kinds of communications public speaking, story telling, letter writing etc, Lincoln had successfully preached his vision and transformed the whole nation, the people as well as himself.
