UC Riverside Athletics Mission Statement:


Intercollegiate Athletics is committed to excellence through academic growth and graduation, competitive success and character development. We support the mission of the University and work to be a widely respected athletics program serving as a source of pride for our students, campus and community.

Challenge One:

To create an atmosphere where everyone in our department believes in how good we can be and is committed to achieving our goals and reaching our potential.

Challenge Two:

To increase student attendance by reaching out to the student body, getting them engaged and giving them an experience that keeps them coming back

Progress: Challenge Two

15% increase in Student Attendance from last year with one final baseball series still to play Great partnerships/promotions with Student Affairs and Housing Hylander Hype energizing the crowds at soccer, volleyball and basketball

Challenge Three:
To create a transparent line between Athletics and the rest of campus because we are all on the same team. When other parts of campus have victories, Athletics also wins.

USC Game
Logo Initiative Strategic Communications, UCR Extension, Alumni Association, Student Affairs, Housing, Bookstore, Physical Plant, Purchasing, Student Body, Athletics Future initiatives are upcoming and the potential for growth as an institution is endless

Challenge Four:
To reach out to the Riverside and surrounding communities in order to bring community members to campus and keep them coming back by engaging staff, coaches, student-athletes, the Alumni Association, University Advancement and University Leadership in cultivating the community.

Early Results:

Sponsorship Revenue up 21% Hotel and Food Trade up 26%

Ticket Revenues up 31% with one baseball series left


Athletics Association up 45%

Season / Single Game Attendance Records

Community Partnerships:

Production of the USC game broadcast in the Coachella Valley


Free Throw Contest City vs. UCR

Ticket promotions for city and county employees


Three-year sponsorship agreement with the County of Riverside Evaluating different opportunities to partner with the City of Riverside to solve youth sports program challenges

Licensing Agreement:

UC Riverside apparel not carried in mainstream outlets including Ontario Airport

Not just a revenue stream but a branding initiative to gain recognition in the community
Agreement finalized with Licensing Resource Group

Success on Campus:

Increasing exposure will help with student-athlete employment searches, attracting admission applicants, augmenting applicant decisions and helping to generate more revenue Increase the value of the degree Increase community engagement Create a close-knit culture on campus
