SMITH FRACTURE

Definition
Smith fracture is a fracture of the distal radius are located - 1 inch from the distal end of the radius with the distal fragment shift forward (volar) and up accompanied by a shift of the distal ulna to the back (dorsal).

Fractures smith often called reverse Colles fracture

epidemiology
A fracture is common in young people, and is more common in men than women

etiology & biomechanics of trauma


Patient falls with hand hold the body Direct trauma

hand position is in a state of volar flexion of the wrist and pronation Usually transverse fault line, sometimes Intraarticular Shift of the distal radius is not the dorsal, but palmar direction

Clinical symptoms
Visible protrusion of the dorsal proximal fragment, the fragment in the distal volar wrist, and radial deviation of the (garden spades deformity)
