PREDICTING SEAL FRICTION

Theoretical Approach: Prediction of Coulomb friction (F) involves Friction due to seal squeeze (Fc) Friction due to pressure (FH) i.e F = FC + FH where, FC = fc x Lf & FH = fh x Ar Lf = Piston circumference Ar = Seal projected area

Friction due to O-ring compression

SWOT Analysis of Pressure Sensor

Strengths
1] Use of brass enhances the aesthetic appeal 2] Reliable testing methods adopted 3] Due to elimination of diaphragm, life of the product increases significantly

Weaknesses
1] Advanced manufacturing processes are not used 2] Required accuracy (+/-5%) is not obtained 3] Vibration testing has not been carried out due to lack of the necessary testing apparatus

Opportunities
1] If manufacturing capabilities are improved and accuracy will improve significantly 2] Could be used for other low pressure range applications 3] If the same product is manufactured in plastics would prove to be economical

Threats
1] If the oil used is having SAE rating greater than SAE 30 then leakage failure is possible
