METRO Cash & Carry announced its operations in Pakistan in January 2006. Under the supervision of Managing Director Mr. Giovanni Soranzo. METRO Cash & Carry Pakistan has opened its first store in the city of Lahore in October 2007.

Yes they do to learn about the market trends, and to analyze that what there competitors are paying to their employees, but he did not share any wage survey with us.

Incentives are performance based. Incentives are in the form of bonuses. Performance is analyzed on quarterly basis. Incentives are not only in monetary form.

They evaluate their employees on the basis of their Task. The Monthly performance reports are prepared. After evaluation the hardworking employees are promoted as well as rewarded. They conduct 360 appraisal One copy is filled by the worker and other by the supervisor, then they have a dialogue about this. Metro also have a training staff to train their existing and new staff. 12/29/12

International training for top managers , and paid holidays for them as well. For other workers they conduct Excellence awards every month, life insurance, family insurance, medical insurance. Even their part time employee is insured. Souvenirs, names engraved mugs, clocks etc are given to employees, birthday celebration, Meal coupon(Buffet 12/29/12 system).

Metro`s compensation plan is a bit different because, they focus more towards intrinsic satisfaction by providing them non financial benefits like excellence awards, souvenirs,Insurance policy,Parties,Meal Coupons, lucky draw on monthly basis.

Conclusion

The setup of Metro is good and standardized. They have gained competitive advantage. They have a good compensation plan, employees are well motivated. Metro is investing a lot in human capital whereas other companies are going for cost cutting, and this is the reason of Metro`s success. It also relates to our compensation lectures, because they offer Merit Base pay. 12/29/12
