PHYSICS PRESENTATION:

HEAT TRANSFER BY CONDUCTION(THERMAL CONDUCTIVTY)

Objective !
To investigate the relationship between thermal conductivity and thermal behaviour of different materials. to determine the value of thermal conductivity , k of different materials

Introduction !
Heat transfer by conduction is the transfer of energy between object that are in physical contact that cause heat transfer between that two bodies. Heat transfer across material (high thermal conductivity) occurs at higher rate than across low thermal conductivity materials. The effect of temperature on thermal conductivity is different for metal and non metal. In metal temperature on thermal conductivity is due to free electrons. Conduction is most significant means of heat transfer within solid in thermal contact. We also had done an experiment to prove this theory. That is to determine the value of thermal conductivity and thermal behavior of 3 Q:Heat transfer in time objects(wood, glass and plastic)

Discussion
The value of thermal conductivity ,k of glass is the highest(0.6703 1 . 1 . 1 ) due to highest mass rate of melted ice ( 0.1678 1 . 1 . 1 ) followed by wood and plastic respectively. Theoretically, heat transfer across materials of high thermal conductivity occurs at a higher rate than across materials of low conductivity. Therefore, glass have a higher rate of heat transfer compared to wood while plastic had the lowest rate of heat transfer among the three. Thus glass would be the best conductor of heat due to its high thermal conductivity while plastic will be a good insulator of heat because it has low thermal conductivity.

Conclusion !
Based on experiment glass has the highest rate of heat transfer followed by wood then plastic then plastic. This shows that glass can transfer heat better than plastics, thus glass is the best heat conductor. Theoretically, wood is the best insulator of heat but the experimental results show that thermal conductivity,k of wood is higher than plastic which contradict to the theory. This happen due to few experimental errors.

Sources of errors and suggestions

Sources of error suggestions There are some water left on the water Use dropper to suck some water droplets channel due to adhesion of water, this left on the water channel may affect the mass of melted ice measured which then affect the experimental result. Some deviation may occur in measuring Do things faster as measuring the the diameter of the ice block as the block diameter and start the experiment keep melting over time thus decrease in immediately. length. Therefore the measurement taken had not be accurate and effect the experiment results. Inaccurate value of diameter is obtained Use appropriate measurement tools such when measurement is taken by using as vernier calliper which could determine ruler. mire accurate reading since it has higher sensitivity and more precise scale
