- Initial Adjustments/Set-Up Notes Both model DVR2000E and model DVR2000EC have the capability of initial set-up/programming from either the Front Panel or from an IBM compatible PC/Laptop (with the Marathon-DVR2000-COMS Software installed) using the RS232 communication port on the back of the regulator. Marathon Electric recommends that the MarathonDVR2000-COMS Software be utilized for programming when possible, as this method is the most accurate and efficient way to program both the DVR2000E and DVR2000EC regulators Note also that not all parameter adjustments are available from the Front Panel.

- Applying Power (Contd) -

190 - 240 Vac, 1-Phase, 225 - 325 Hz (PMG)

When using the PMG as a power source, before starting-up the generator for the first time, remove the fuse from the rear panel, and then perform all of the preliminary engine governor adjustments without the generator energized. After the engine governor adjustments have been completed, shut down the engine and reinstall the regulator fuse. If the engine governor settings have already been completed, this step can be omitted.
When utilizing the PMG as a power source for programming, Marathon Electric recommends that you remove and isolate all other connections to the regulator with the exception of Terminals 3, 4, ground, and your serial cable connection.

NOTE: No matter what power source you choose, be sure that the DVR2000E/EC is hard-wired to earth with no smaller than 12 AWG copper wire attached to the ground terminal on the rear of the unit case.

- Manual Mode On/Off Adjustments Notes 1. At Manual Mode (AKA, FCR Mode) Adjust Level 1 (LED 1) generator terminal voltage will be close to the generators residual voltage. At level 2 (LED 2), generator terminal voltage will be in the area of half the regulator voltage set point. 2. Before enabling the Manual Mode, insure that the Manual Mode Adjust Level is on either LED #1 or LED #2. If the Manual Mode level of current is too high for the generator when the Manual Mode is enabled, severe damage to the generator may occur. Adjustment is the next slide. 3. The Manual Mode does not disable the Over Voltage Protective Shut Down for the voltage set point; therefore, when in the Manual Mode, raising the excitation current to a level that will bring the generator terminal voltage above the Over Voltage shutdown Point, the Over Voltage Protective Shut Down will activate, and the regulator will latch-off causing Over Voltage (LED #1) to blink rapidly.

- Stability Range Adjustments Notes The Stability Range setting sets the DVR2000E and DVR2000EC response time to the general time constant of all of the generator models in a given generator frame series. Fine tuning of the DVR2000E/EC regulators response time to the particular needs of a specific load application is accomplished by the Gain Adjustments.

24

DVR2000E/EC Front Panel Programming

- Gain Adjustments Notes Gain (Kg) may be defined as the ratio of an amplifier output to input. I.e.: Input value x gain = output value. The Gain Control acts in a manner similar to the fine voltage adjust. The stability range adjust gets the unit close to the final requirement, and the gain adjust tweaks the the response time to the exact requirement of the application or load. Adjusting the AVR gain (Kg) on the DVR2000E and DVR2000EC regulators has the same effect as adjusting stability (feed back rate) on our other regulators. Increasing the value of Kg is the same as decreasing stability (increased output oscillation), and decreasing Kg is the same as increasing stability (decreased output oscillation).

- Final Programming Procedures After the Gain Adjustments have been completed, proceed as follows:

1.

LED #11 (Fine voltage Adjustments) will be blinking slowly and LED #7 will be solid, press the Select Button as Fine Voltage will be adjusted later in this procedure.
Referencing item #7 on Page 48 of DVR2000E IOM Manual, remove power from regulator. a) If AC input power to the regulator has been taken from a separate 110/120 Vac source, remove the power leads from regulator terminals. Install the regulator, and make up all of the proper connections to the regulator. b) If AC power input has been from the generators PMG, shut down the set, reconnect the exciter field leads F+ and F-, the sensing leads to E1, E2, and E3, and all other connections such as parallel current transformer leads, etc. After all required connections have been made, start-up the generator set and proceed with the following final adjustments. 26

- Final Fine Voltage Adjustments 4. Fine Voltage Adjustments is used to bring the generators terminal voltage to the exact level desired. Read the generator line-to-line voltage. Press the Up/Down Buttons to raise/lower the voltage until it is at the desired level, then press the Select button to retain this setting.

NOTE 1: When you press the Up/Down Buttons while in the Operational Mode the DVR2000E and DVR2000EC will automatically go into the Fine Voltage Adjustments Mode. NOTE 2: Fine Voltage Adjust change will be in increments of 0.1 volts per press of the Up/Down Buttons. Do not be impatient. It will take 10 presses of the Up/Down Button to achieve a 1 volt change. You may also press and hold the Up/Down Button to more quickly achieve the setting you desire.

- Final Under Frequency Adjustments 5. In the initial set-up for 60 Hertz operation we suggested LED #10 (Range 58.8 Hz to 60.8 Hz) for the initial setting, and for 50 Hertz operation, we suggested LED 5 (Range 48.0 Hz to 50.8 Hz) for the initial setting. The increment of change for each depression of the Up/Down Buttons is 0.1 Hz. a) If the Under Frequency (UF) LED (LED #7) is blinking rapidly upon startup after all connections have been made, this means that the UF set point is at the desired frequency (60 or 50 Hz), or up to 0.8 Hz above this frequency. To adjust the UF Set Point to the desired level, press the Select Button until you are at Under Frequency Adjustments (LED #7). Press the Down Button until LED #7 stops blinking rapidly. This means that the set point is now 0.1 Hz below system frequency. Considering that the increment of change for each depression of the Down Button is 0.1 Hz, now press the Down Button the number of times necessary to reach the desired Under Frequency Roll-Off Set 28 Point . Depress the Select Button to retain this setting.

b)

DVR2000E/EC Front Panel Programming

- Final Under Frequency Adjustments 6. If the Under Frequency (UF) LED (LED #7) is not blinking upon startup after all connections have been made, this means that the UF set point is up 1.2 Hz below the desired frequency (60 or 50 Hz). a) The simplest method to adjust the Under Frequency Set Point to the desired frequency (in this condition) is to press the Select Button until you are at Under Frequency Adjustment (LED #7). Then, depress the Up Button until LED #7 starts blinking rapidly. This means that the roll-off frequency is the same as the generator frequency (60 or 50 Hertz). Following the procedure described in the previous slide, depress the Down Button the required number of times to reach the desired Under Frequency Roll-Off Set Point . Depress the Select Button to retain this setting.
