Science Year 5 : Energy

Teacher I : Cikgu Boon Kiat Teacher II : Cikgu Asrul

Introduction - traditional
Teacher is the person who share and give the knowledge to students in several platform. The different teachers are applying different teaching method to their students. Basically there are two type of teaching method are using by teacher which is traditional and modern method. the traditional way in disciplining students in school and teaching them was an effective way in building a good characteristic student where students were afraid of their teacher and respect them The pros for traditional methods -teachers shouldered too much of responsibilities for teaching in the classroom to make sure everything they thought were understood by the student. Talking about the pros there are cons to traditional method way where students were too afraid to ask their teacher questions. Thus students get board of the same way of teaching method done by the teacher which is on the blackboard and listening to the teacher talk while they sit down in class and heat up their chairs.

Introduction modern
In modern method students are aware of their learning process through the computers. Thus with the help of computers teachers prepare their work in their thumb drive and present it to the class through slides show which is an easier way. students can do their studying and their work all in the computer without depending 100% on their teacher in school. students even have a bonding relationship with their teacher to be their friend so that they can share their problems to the teacher without being afraid.

Teaching Methods
In our class, we are using the constructivist approach to

teach the Students for subject science; constructivist is;

Constructivism is child-centered (education focusing on the needs of the student), rather than curriculum based. Constructivism focuses on the knowledge construction, not the knowledge reproduction. Everyones view of the external world differs form others because of their unique set of experience.

The idea and interests of children drive the learning process.

Teacher are flexible- they are the facilitator.

Constructivism
Teacher engages students by providing knowledge expansion tools the students use, collaboratively and cooperatively through inquiry, exploration, teamwork, whole group discussions, and evaluation. Explore Listen Collaborate Evaluate

Advantages: Students LISTEN to their peers Students COLLABORATE with group members Students EXPLORE independently Disadvantages: Requires extensive planning time

Daily Outline
Date/Day : 10 May 2012 / Friday Subject : Science Topic : Respiration Form :3 Place : Media Room at Resource Center Time : 8.30am 10.00am No.of Students : 24 students Objective : 1.1 The students able to analyzing the human breathing mechanism. 1.2 The students can explain the transport of oxygen in the human body. 1.3 The students can write out the importance of a healthy respiratory system.

What we need and gain from this topic?

Existing knowledge: People is breathing to live, oxygen is used to breath Science Process Skills: Predicting, make inferences, communicating

Materials: pictures of people breathing, death body

Value: Cooperation, expression of gratitude for God Skills: Simulation, descriptions, and brainstorming, use

Internet, team working, group organization

Today Outline
Step/Time Induction ( 10 Minutes ) Place: Media Room What is respiration system? Topic Teaching And Learning Process Teacher Activity Students Activity Greetings teacher to Students. Students answer the greeting? Teacher shows pictures of people breathing and another picture is death body. Teachers asked Students to give their views / opinions on a given picture. Teacher ask questions orally with Students. Teachers start lessons and associate images with the title shown to be learned. Students observe pictures shown. Students independently give their views on the picture.?

Students to provide answers based on the questions provided in accordance with their understanding.
The Students are now ready to learn.

Today Outline
Step/Time Step 1 - Collabrate ( 15-20 minutes ) Topic Teaching And Learning Process Teacher Activity Students Activity -Teacher gives a description of topics - Students listen to explanations and to be covered. make brief notes. -Teacher divides the Students into 4 groups (6 people per group) -Teachers coordinate each groups with 2 computers (1 PC for surf internet,1 PC for slide presentation) -Each group asked to create a mind map of the title of human breathing system and need to answer followings question; Question. 1. Describe the process of inhalation and exhalation? - Students are divided into four groups. - Groups leader will assign task to each team members. - Students are in their groups together to discuss what to do.

Analyzing the human breathing mechanism.

Understanding the transport of oxygen in the human body.

Realizing the importance of a healthy respiratory system. 2. describe the transport of oxygen by blood?

3. explain the effects of pollutants on the respiratory system?

Topic Outline
Step/Time Step 2 explore/ evaluate ( 45 Minutes ) Topic Teaching And Learning Process Teacher Activity Students Activity - Students discuss in groups to create a power point slide Making the human breathing mechanism - Teachers coordinate each groups with 2 power point / mind mapping computers (1 PC for surf internet,1 PC for graphics. slide presentation)

- Each group will send out 2-3 - Each group asked to create a mind map of representative to present their the energy title of the human breathing findings. mechanism - 7 minutes duration is provided - Teacher/Facilitator will guide the group to to each groups. search the information for presentation. - Once completed, the teacher asks each group to make a presentation on the mind map they produce. - Teacher made a comment about mind maps produced by each group. - Teacher will help to print out the slide and paste in the corner of the classroom subjects.

Step/Time End ( 15 Minit )

Topic - The human breathing mechanism. The transportation of oxygen in the human body. The importance of a healthy respiratory system.

Teaching And Learning Process Teacher Activity Students Activity - Teachers summaries the lesson together with activities to strengthen their understanding of the topics they learned. Students will respond/feedback every question presented/asked by the teacher.

Reflection
1. 2. 3. 4. Process T&L running smoothly Objective achieved. Students can answers the question easily because the have been informed early what topic want to be discuss. Students understand the human breathing mechanism.

5.
6.

Students can explain how the oxygen being transport inside body.
Students able to give explanation and clear example about the effect of smoking.

Strength
The strength in this topic is students understanding and their knowledge about this topic. This topic is easy to digest. The students was divided to 4 groups and easy to control during teaching. A gift and appreciation given will increased the students interest in this subject. Working in group makes students more motivated while the ICT allows students to explore more than syllabus.
