INTRODUCTION
The origin of SBI dates back to the early 19th century, when the Bank of Calcutta was established in Calcutta (present day Kolkata in the state of West Bengal) in June 1806 under the aegis of the Government of Bengal. Currently State Bank of India (SBI) and its associate banks had 16,000 branches, one of the largest branch networks for any bank in the world. It played a key role in providing working capital finance and term loans to Indian industry. SBI is the largest commercial bank in India in terms of revenues (24.577 billion, 2008), assets(257.183 billion, 2008), deposits, branches and workforce.

Internet Application of SBI

On-line Bill Payment

SBI provide a simple and convenient service for receiving and paying your bills online. The advantages are :-

No more late payments. No more queues. No more hassles of depositing cheques.

Online Pay:
Using SBI e-PAY you can pay your various bills online, directly from your SBI Account. You can pay telephone, electricity, insurance, credit card and other bills - from the comfort of your home or office, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Simply logon to http://www.onlinesbi.com/ to 'see and pay' your bills. You also get an electronic acknowledgment for every bill paid by you using e-PAY.

The e-PAY service is available in various cities across the country and you can now make payments to several billers in your region. To start receiving and paying your bills online, simply login to http://www.onlinesbi.com and use the 'Add Biller' feature to select the billers you wish to make payments to.

Logon to the site of IRCTC www.irctc.co.in Register yourself on the site (if first time user) along with Username and Password (meant for IRCTC site). Provide the necessary information i.e. departure & arrival, date and class of the journey under option of 'Plan My Travel and Book Ticket'. Select your train and click on 'Book Ticket. Provide passenger details and confirm your address for getting delivery of tickets. Choose payment option 'State Bank of India'. You will be on the SBI site. Log in with Username and Password (for SBI) and confirm the payment. On successful transaction, you will be provided with Transaction Id and date of transaction. The ticket will be delivered by IRCTC at your place of choice.

Online SBI provides the facility to pay various taxes online like TDS, Income Tax, Corporate Tax, Wealth Tax, Gift Tax, and Fringe Benefits Tax. You need to have a bank account enabled for net banking facility with transaction rights in anyone of our branches. Click the Direct Taxes link. You are displayed Tax Information Network webpage of Income Tax Department. Click the challan No. applicable. Enter the PAN, name, address, assessment year, type of payment etc. Select State Bank of India from the list & You will straight away to the SBI login page. Enter your Internet Banking user ID and password. Enter the tax amount and submit the page. You are displayed a confirmation page indicating the status of the transaction. You can also generate e-receipt from 'Status Enquiry' link.

Issue a DD in five simple steps:


Select any of your transaction accounts as the Debit account for the DD amount. Enter the amount and beneficiary name. Select the branch at which the DD is payable. Choose a delivery mode collect in person or courier. Generate and print the counterfoil instantly! The Mobile Banking Service will be available to all the customers having Current/ Savings Accounts. The customers will have to register for the services. Daily transaction limits for fund transfer and bill/ merchant payment will be Rs.5000.00and Rs.10,000.00 respectively per customer. The service is free of charge. However, the cost of SMS / GPRS connectivity will have to be borne by the customer.

Inter Bank Transfer

Inter Bank Transfer is a special service that allows you to transfer funds electronically to accounts in other banks in India.

Procedure to use this service :Log on to www.onlinesbi.com by using your SBI Internet Banking ID and Password. Click on the Manage Interbank Payee link in the Profile tab. Select the Add option and provide the Beneficiary Name, Beneficiary Account Number, Beneficiary Bank and transfer limit to register the Beneficiary. After providing all the details, the beneficiary will be added. After adding the Beneficiary you will receive a password in your mobile.This is done basically to double check your identity. Provide the password to authorize the Beneficiary. After a Beneficiary is authorized you can start transferring funds. After that You can proceed for payments.
