Mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of edible macro-

fungi. Mushrooms are protein rich food containing amino acids besides containing useful amount of fats, vitamins and minerals.

STRENGHTS
Mushroom is a short-duration crop with high yield per unit time.

Strong research infrastructure and availability of expert manpower. Technologies for value-added mushroom products have been

standardised and are ready for commercialisation. Located at the strategic point with easy connectivity to input market, labour, warehouse facility, shipping point and client market.

WEAKNESSES
Mushrooms are highly perishable vegetable crop with less than

two to three days of storability. Intellectual property rights regimes under World Trade Organization (WTO) have restricted free flow of genetic materials and import of high-yielding cultivars for use in breeding. Very few skilled and semi -skilled labourers. Fresh mushrooms priced at market rate.

OPPORTUNITIES
Growing influence of western cuisine. Changing lifestyle and emphasis on wholesome cum

nutritious food. Many hotels, restaurants, shopping malls and super markets in and around Bangalore. Increase use in the ayurvedic treatment of male libido, diabetes, skin problem, etc.

THREATS
Competition from major mushroom cultivators cum

wholesellers in Bangalore- Sumeru Agro Harvest (P)Ltd and Jayaa Agro Foods.
