Google Map Maker


Google Map Maker is a service launched by Google in June 2008, designed to expand the breadth of the service currently offered by Google Maps. In some countries mapping data is unavailable, and so to fill this void Google has decided to open up Google Maps to a collaborative community effort in certain territories. The ultimate goal of the project is to acquire sufficient high-quality mapping data to be published and used on the existing Google Maps service.

What is Google Map Maker?

Google Map Maker, a separate tool from Google Maps, allows you to add or edit the local information you know, including businesses, roads, parks, campuses and much more, it can be accessed at mapmaker.google.com, and it is available in 190 countries. A collaborative mapping environment which combines all user's local knowledge with comprehensive satellite imagery to map the world.

The way to improve data that makes its way to Google Maps, Google Earth, Google Maps for Mobile, etc.; to make these products more useful for your part of the world.

Started in May 2010 just to correct some roads


in my neighbourhood. Done with nearly 10,000+ edits by now. Promoted to RER by Google in 2012. Currently the second highest contributor for NCR region and the only RER for the region. Indentified and mapped down all the 52 DTC bus depots in the region. All the sports facilities and biodiversity parks in the purview of DDA are on the maps. Mapped down the whole Roorkee city, UK in just three days using local data.

Some personal achievements

All the complexes coming under Delhi Tourism mapped down. Tried and successfully created a 3D model of this very own building we are in right now and its now live. Corrected poor road names of all the major/minor arteries in Delhi. Alignment of three major National highways namely NH 1,8 and 10 done up till Delhi border. Addition of some localities and their sub-localities in the region. Done with the current network of 142 Delhi Metro stations and 19 Delhi Ring Railway Network stations. All the Delhi Govt. hospitals are on the Maps.

Things currently in pipeline.


All the police stations(155)/fire stations(53)under Delhi Police/DFS and 30 prepaid TSR booths being operated by Delhi Traffic Police. The colleges affiliated to Delhi University and Indraprastha University : the two major universities in the capital. Addition of more localities and fixing their boundaries. Adding biking paths to the Maps by collaborating with the major cycling groups of Delhi. Updating newly built 17 RUBs in Delhi so that directions get better and users can use alternate routes to decongest major intersections. Adding Pedestrian Underpasses and Foot Over bridges so that walking directions are proper and accurate for users on foot. Alignment and addition of turn intersections of NH 2, NH 24 and NH 24 bye pass Road. Mapping down all the historical complexes in the capital. Adding natural features like canals, marshes and ridges to the maps. Identifying and adding the stations of soon to be opened Gurgaon Rapid Metro. And lastly growing the mapping community.
