    What is acronym?
    A word formed by using the initials of a phrase or other groups of words. By 'initial letters', the definition doesn't limit itself just to the single first letter of a word, but to the letters that begin the word. An acronym is often considered to be a type of abbreviation. Generally, if an abbreviation is pronounced as a word rather than as the letters individually, it is considered an acronym.

    Occasionally, acronyms form a word whose original meaning is nearly forgotten, such as "laser" (lser in Spanish), which comes from "l(ight) a(mplification by) s(timulated) e(mission of) r(adiation)."

    ACRONYM
    a term that is formed from the initial letters of some longer name and is pronounced differently than the expanded form.

    ABBREVIATION

    NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), it is pronounced as a word, NASA, and not by spelling out the letters N, A, S, A.

    An abbreviation is written differently from the expanded form but is pronounced the same.
    Mr., which stands for mister and is pronounced mister etc., which stands for et cetera and is pronounced et cetera

    initialism

    often confused with acronyms because they are made up of letters, so they look similar, but they can't be pronounced as words.

    FBI and CIA are examples of initialism because they're made up of the first letters of Federal Bureau of Investigation and Central Intelligence Agency, respectively, but they can't be pronounced as words.
