Introduction About Web Site


The National Informatics Centre (NIC) is the

premier science & technology organization of India's Union Government in informatics services and information-andcommunication- technology (ICT) applications. The NIC is a part of the Indian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology's Department of Electronics & Information Technology. It has played a pivotal role in steering e governance applications in the governmental departments at national, state and district levels, enabling the improvement in, and a wider transparency of, government services. Almost all Indiangovernment websites are developed / managed by NIC.

The basic object of the Right to Information Act is to

empower the citizens , promote transparency and accountability in the working of the Government , contain corruption, and make our democracy work for the people in real sense . It goes without saying that an informed citizen is better equipped to keep necessary vigil on the instruments of governance and make the government more accountable to the governed . The Act is a big step towards making the citizens informed about the activities of the Government. NIC as a Public Authority designated Public Information Officer (PIO) and Appellate Authority (AA) for citizens to secure access to information and published the Proactive Disclosures in accordance with the provisions 10/20/2013 16 of the Act in October 2005.

NIC has its full fledged canters in each of the state of India along with the Union Territories. In addition to the core infrastructure at the national level, NIC canters at States/UTs are also equipped to provide Web Hosting, Internet connectivity, E-mail facility, LAN / WAN connectivity (leased line), Dial Up services, Technical support and consultancy to the state governments and district administration

NIC Headquarter
The organizational set up of NIC encompasses its

Headquarters at New Delhi, State Units in all the 28 State capitals and 7 Union Territory Headquarters and District centres in almost all The Districts of India. The Organization employs a large pool of efficient technical manpower. At the NIC Headquarters, a large number of Application Divisions exist which provide total Informatics support to the Ministries and Departments of the Central Government. NIC Computer Cells are located in almost all the Ministry Bhawans of the Central Government and Apex Offices including the Prime Minister's Office, the Rashtrapati Bhawan and the Parliament House. NIC Headquarters is based in New Delhi. NIC has various Resource Divisions at the Headquarters which specialize into different areas of IT and facilitate the 10/20/2013 Application Divisions as well as other NIC Centres in

NIC STATE OFFICES :


States

NIC has its full fledged centres in each of the state of India along with the Union Territories. In addition to the core infrastructure at the national level, NIC centres at States/UTs are also equipped to provide Web Hosting, Internet connectivity, E-mail facility, LAN / WAN connectivity (leased line), Dial Up services, Technical support and consultancy to the state governments and district administration. Internet Data Centre Hosting infrastructure of NIC includes strategic storage, known as Storage Area Network (SAN), facilitating high availability (24x7), quick scalability, efficient management & optimized utilization of resources, with connection to Internet on very high bandwidth. Most of the State level IDCs consist of SAN storage along with State-of-the-art Servers, Windows & Linux based hosting environment. Network Infrastructure Network Infrastructure in States/UTs supports Video Conferencing, Anti Virus Support and Security services at State/District levels on 24x7 basis. States/ UTs are equipped with high end technology products & solutions to provide seamless services to their users as 10/20/2013 20 below:

State Portal (Government) hosting State websites. Intranet applications at State Secretariat. Web-enabled applications pertaining to Commissioner Land Records, Food Department, School Education, Forest Department, Health, etc. FTP Server for transmission of utility/applications software to District Centres.

CONCLUSION
It has played a pivotal role in steering e-governance applications in the

governmental departments at national, state and district levels, enabling the improvement in, and a wider transparency of, government services. Almost all Indian-government websites are developed / managed by NIC.
NIC is a part of the Indian Ministry of Communications & Information

Technology's Department of Electronics & Information Technology and is headquartered in New Delhi. It has offices in all 28 state capitals and 7 unionterritory headquarters and almost all districts. At New Delhi Headquarters, a large number of Application Divisions exist which provide total Informatics Support to the Ministries and Departments of the Central Government. To cater to the ICT needs at the grassroots level, the NIC has also opened offices in almost all district collectorates. NIC Extends Technical Coordination and IT support to District Administration.
So in very short we can say that NIC (National Informatics centre) is playing very

important role for e-Governance and its a backbone of cyber space in INDIA .
