APSG Orientation 2009 Revision 1
APSG Orientation 2009 Revision 1
One great philosopher once said, "Gymnastics is the only sport; everything else is just a contest or
game." As arrogant as that may sound, there is a lot of truth to it. As much good as there is in many other
"sports" and activities, I believe that the sport of gymnastics offers much more. That is why we say it is the
"foundation of all sports". Your choice as a family to continue to pursue the endless possibilities of where
gymnastics can take you and your child is one that will lead to an adventure full of learning and growth.
Being a part of the Aspire family means more than learning lots of fun and cool tricks. It means building
lifelong friendships and learning how to deal with others. Your child will learn how to show respect even when
they don’t “feel” like it. They will learn the importance of teamwork, leadership, hard work, sacrifice, goal-
setting and time management to name a few things.
Having both a son (Riley who is 18 years old) and a daughter (Briena- 16 years old) in the sport who
have both grown through very difficult challenging times, Dona and I know very well what the challenges and
rewards are that are in store for many of your children. It is definitely NOT the easiest sport, but I do believe
it is one of the most rewarding sports! As parents, Dona and I have always took the stand that we really don’t
care what our kids pursue as long as it is legal, healthy and they do it with passion! I love walking around our
gym and seeing all the passion that is exuberated from not only the athletes, but also our coaches. WOW… it
is an exciting place to be every day.
I hope that you enjoy this year and support the whole Aspire team (kids, coaches, support staff) who all
help make this a great adventure for us all. If I have learned anything from the last 38 years in this sport, it
won’t be the easiest year (haven’t had one yet), but it definitely can be the BEST year! Let’s all join together,
roll up our sleeves and have fun together making this a memorable year for our kids!

Letter from the President
Welcome back and thank you to those of your who have been a part of our growth and successes in the
past, and welcome to those families that are new to APSG for 2009-2010.
I would like to express my thanks to the immediate past president, Carlos Flys, for his dedication and the
excellent job he did bringing us to where we are today, and to our immediate past Treasurer, Jeanne
Becker, for her commitment to our club’s success. And I want to acknowledge our current board, many
of whom are continuing in volunteer positions from last year or taking on new roles in our board, as well
as our Leadership Team. We have a wonderful group of talented and sincere parents who want to make
this a better place for our kids – I hope you will get to know them!
Also, it is a great time to thank Scott and Dona Barclay for the tremendous opportunities they have
given to our club in the past, providing our families with so many volunteer opportunities.
Competitive gymnastics and T&T is, no doubt, a costly sport, and fundraising gives us great
opportunities to reduce these costs. As we did last year, we again look forward to giving back to our
families thousands of dollars in volunteer credits. We already have in place the Fry’s program cards,
and are looking at additional ways to help our team families fundraise. If anyone has ideas for individual
or team fundraising events feel free to bring them to our attention so we may look into them.
The APSG still has openings in our Leadership Team – please consider being an active member.
My role is to help make this a fun and successful year for us all as we work together to give our kids
great opportunities, and I am here to try and help you with your concerns. Please contact me and I will
try my best to help.
I hope to see you all at our upcoming ALL-ASPIRE TEAM PRE-SEASON MIXER/PARTY on Saturday, August
29, 2009 from 5:30 – 7:30 at Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center. Please save the date!
Sincerely,
Rick Brewer

___________________________________________________________________________________
_, Hereby agree to abide by the financial obligations as stated in this August 2009 Orientation Package.
I hereby allow the APSG treasurer to have access to my credit card which is on file with Aspire Kids
Sports Center, Inc. This credit card will only be charged if your monthly dues become delinquent and you
have not made direct arrangements with the APSG to make payments to your account in some other
fashion.
I understand that membership on a competitive Aspire team comes with the expectation that my athlete
will participate in all team meets and events. If my athlete cannot compete, I will need to have his/her
coach approve a “Missing Meet Consent Form.” I also acknowledge that each event is individually
managed by the sponsoring agency which may or may not reimburse registration fees if certain deadlines
are not met.
I agree to volunteer at least 5 hours per athlete at an APSG sponsored event(s). All hours worked in
excess of 5 hours will fall within the volunteer credit policy included in the August 2009 Orientation
Package. If I do not work at least 5 hours, I will be billed $10/hr not worked at the end of the season.
