Air Liquide Philippines Inc. By: John Marnie Corres

AIR LIQUIDE PHILIPPINES INC.

Air Liquide Philippines, Inc. or the ALPI is currently operating at Clark, produces different kinds of gases like Liquid Nitrogen, Liquid Oxygen, Liquid Argon, Liquid Carbon Dioxide and Hydrogen that supplies different types of market in the industry like industrial merchants, large industries, electronics, healthcare, and engineering & construction. --

WHY DO ALPI NEED THE DCS?

At ALPI Safety and Quality remains the priority - Air Liquide Philippines is currently in its 14th year of No Lost Time Accident and is ISO 9001:2008 certified. Air Liquide Philippines is also GMP certified for Medical Oxygen. Most recently, the Liquid Carbon Dioxide Plant in Pasig was also certified under Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000:2010 for the manufacture of liquid carbon dioxide as food additive. Safety and quality standards are in accordance with Air Liquides Industrial Management System. At Air Liquide Philippines, safety and compliance first before any decision and action. --

ALPI is one of the leader in gas industry, it operates twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week and it is equip with high technology machineries and equipment that are needed to be monitored every moment and maintain to prevent unnecessary stoppage of the machines and the whole production of ALPI. It can monitor their machines and equipment without taking their workers in danger or at risk by using DCS.

WHAT IS DCS
A distributed control system (DCS) refers to a control system usually of a manufacturing system, process or any kind of dynamic system, in which the controller elements are not central in location (like the brain) but are distributed throughout the system with each component sub-system controlled by one or more controllers. The entire system of controllers is connected by networks for communication and monitoring. DCS is a very broad term used in a variety of industries, to monitor and control distributed equipment.

--

A DCS typically uses custom designed processors as controllers and uses both proprietary interconnections and communications protocol for communication. Input and output modules form component parts of the DCS. The processor receives information from input modules and sends information to output modules. The input modules receive information from input instruments in the process (or field) and transmit instructions to the output instruments in the field. Computer buses or electrical buses connect the processor and modules through multiplexer or de-multiplexers. Buses also connect the distributed controllers with the central controller and finally to the Humanmachine interface (HMI) or control consoles.

BENEFITS OF DCS IN ALPI

reduce cost reduce manpower because improve safety working conditions

improve quality
maintain the level of production

Recommendation: The researcher recommends to continue using the system and continue checking for the system updates and maintenance.
