MRTS
Mass Rapid Transit System System is a public transport system in an urban area with high capacity, high frequency Fast & segregated from other traffic Located either in underground tunnels (subways) or elevated above street level (elevated transit line) Systems are provided on designated lines between stations typically using electric multiple units on rail tracks, some systems use guided rubber tyres, magnetic levitation, or monorail.
HISTORY -World
first rapid-transit system was the partially underground Metropolitan Railway- opened in 1863, oldest in world- 150 years
In 1868 New York opened the elevated West Side and Yonkers Patent Railway Advancements in technology -new automated services Hybrid solutions - tram-train and premetro (Electric Trams) In response to cost, engineering considerations and topological challenges some cities have opted to construct trams systems
HISTORY-India
Rapid Transit in India consists of metro, monorail and light rail systems. first - Kolkata Metro, started operations in 1984. It is an underground Metro line in India. & run by the Indian Railways operations started in 1984 - 3.5 km stretch & 1992 -16.45 km started. Russia, Germany , France are involved in the technology development Delhi Metro -India's first modern metro

TECHNICALITIES OF METRO
WHAT IS GUAGE
TECHNICALITIES OF METRO
Metro rail lines - Standard gauge and Broad gauge Between Inderlok and Mundka, and is the first standard gauge railway line in India. The standard gauge is a widely used railway track gauge. Approximately 60% of lines in the world are this gauge Except for Russia and Finland, all high-speed lines are this gauge.
TECHNICALITIES OF METRO
Delhi Metro used Broad Gauge for their earliest lines But most new projects in India are on standard gauge as rolling stock imported from Europe is on Standard Gauge. One exception is the Ahmedabad Metro, which will use Broad gauge, as there is more place available inside the coach. In the long term, using Broad gauge may also allow for freight movement of containers from the Indian Railway network on the Metro train network and increased capacity within the train cars.
Advantages
Employment and GDP Revenue generation Cheap and faster mode of travelling http://www.delhimetrorail.com/metrofares.aspx Eco-friendly
Disadvantages
Very high construction cost Congestion problem
Conclusion
HERE IS THE FUTURE!!!
