A study to evaluate the effectiveness of video-assisted teaching program on knowledge, attitude and practice of pregnant mothers on selected aspects of Ante-Natal care in antenatal clinic at Primary Health Center, Vadalur.

INTRODUCTION
The word Mother is related with tender, care affection and love. Mothers love is boundless and her care is infinite. The Jewish proverb rightly states God could not be everywhere, so he created mothers.

Maternal mortality was common in both developed and developing countries as late the mid-1900s, but maternal mortality began to decline dramatically in most developed countries around the 1930s. Our best guess is that 99% of maternal deaths occur in developing countries

The World Health Organization (WHO) statistics reveal that over 500,000 women died from pregnancy- and birth-related causes. A woman in a developing country is 97 times more likely to die as a result of pregnancy than a woman in a developed country

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

A study to evaluate the effectiveness of video-assisted teaching program on knowledge, attitude and practice of pregnant mothers on selected aspects of Ante-Natal care in antenatal clinic at Primary Health Center, Vadalur.

OBJECTIVES
To assess the effectiveness of Video-assisted Teaching Program on antenatal care among the antenatal mothers before and after Video assisted teaching Program. To associate the pre-test knowledge on antenatal care with selected demographic and obstetric variables of the antenatal mothers such as antenatal check up, antenatal nutrition and antenatal immunization.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH DESIGN The research design employed for this study was the one group pre-test posttest (Pre-experimental design) will be used for this study. SETTING OF THE STUDY This study was conducted at the primary health centre in Vadalur.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
POPULATION All Primi- Antenatal mothers attending OPD at PHC in vadalur SAMPLE SIZE Sample size 60 antenatal mothers. SAMPLING TECHNIQUE Non-probability convenience sampling technique was adopted to select the sample.

MAJOR FINDINGS OF THE STUDY

The descriptive and inferential statistics were used to compute the data. The statistics showed the following results: The study revealed that most of the subjects 60(100%) had inadequate knowledge on Antenatal care in the pre-test. After VATP 52(86.7%) of the subjects had moderate knowledge and 8(13.3%) of the subjects had adequate knowledge on Antenatal care.

The attitute level shows that 20 (33.3%) of the subjects were uncertain of their attitude and 40(66.7) of the subjects had positive attitude regarding antenatal care in the pre-test. Further, it shows that 34(56.7%) of the subjects had positive attitude and 26(43.3%) of the subjects had highly positive attitude in the Posttest.

The level of practice shows that 4(6.7%) of the subjects had inadequate practice, 11(18.3%) of the subjects had moderate practice and 45(75%) of the subjects had adequate practice regarding antenatal care. The effectiveness of VATP was statistically tested by pairedt value and the results were found to be significant at (p< 0.001) level.

The study showed that there was a significant association between pre-test knowledge with their age, educational status, place of living, type of family (p< 0.001) level and there was no significant association between pre-test knowledge with their duration of marital status, source of information which was statistically confirmed with thet test.

CONCLUSION
The present study assessed the knowledge, attitude and practice of the subjects regarding antenatal care and found that the subjects had inadequate knowledge and attitude related to antenatal care. After the video- assisted teaching programme on antenatal care there was a significant improvement in knowledge and attitude of the subjects regarding antenatal care. The study concluded that the video- assisted teaching programme was effective in improving knowledge and attitude regarding antenatal care.
