Certification 15 We chose to give our film a certification of a 15, as we feel that it would be more suitable given as our film

contains mild references to bad language and sex is inferred however not seen. We questioned whether we should rate our film a 12, however it became apparent that this would be restricting with parts of the context within our narrative, therefore the certification of a 15 is well suitable for our film. Discrimination The work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory language or behaviour. In our film we have avoided the use of discrimination that could possibly occur in our films genre; our film has no need to use any offensive behaviour or language, purely because our films story line has no racial or sexist (etc) connotations. Our main characters are Caucasian and African, therefore there is no discrimination apparent. Drugs Drug taking may be shown but the film as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse. The misuse of easily accessible and highly dangerous substances (for example, aerosols or solvents) is unlikely to be acceptable. There is no drug use in our film; there is no reference to drugs or any toxic substances that are misused by people in day to day life. However if there is a character smoking a cigarette in the background which is not condoned by and the character that is seen smoking is seen as a negative character in the film.

Horror Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised. There was no horror involved in our film, our scenes are mostly comedic. There is no need to introduce any horror in our film as there are no threatening scenes. Imitable behaviour Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised. There is barely any imitable behaviour in our film other than the behaviour between Dan (The boyfriend) and Paige, Dan neglect towards Paige can be seen as a form of imitable behaviour, There is another part of the film which may be seen as imitable behaviour and that is when Mitchell and his friends talk down to a younger boy; however it is not the main focus of the film and no characters are extremely affected by this. Language There may be frequent use of strong language (for example, f**k). The strongest terms (for example, c**t) may be acceptable if justified by the context. Aggressive or repeated use of the strongest language is unlikely to be acceptable. The extent of the bad language used in our film is acceptable, the characters dont have the extreme necessity to swear in our film, however in the scene of Mitchell and his friends talking down to the young boy, they may use words such as F**k or S**t.

Nudity Nudity may be allowed in a sexual context but without strong detail. There are no constraints on nudity in a non-sexual or educational context. There is no reference or visual nudity in our film, this is not applicable to our particular story line. Sex Sexual activity may be portrayed without strong detail. There may be strong verbal references to sexual behaviour, but the strongest references are unlikely to be acceptable unless justified by context. Works whose primary purpose is sexual arousal or stimulation are unlikely to be acceptable. Sex is inferred within the narrative however is not seen, this is not a big part of the film, it is just a small scene that represents the relationship between Paige and her boyfriend. Theme No theme is prohibited, provided the treatment is appropriate for 15 year olds. Violence Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but any portrayal of sexual violence must be discreet and have a strong contextual justification. The only use of violence within our film is through mild verbal references there wont be any signs of strong physical violence within our film, although it may be inferred it is not dwelled on and it is not seen.

All of the elements that we will include within our film do not breach the rules of a certification of a 15 as it would not be needed; therefore we feel that this is well suited to our film. This certification conforms well to the genre of our product, as romantic comedies can either be targeted at a very young audience due to the context which is used within the narrative, for example romantic comedies that are aimed at the younger audience would be in relation to the genre of a chick flick, the comical aspect would be more sensitive and suitable for the younger audience as well as the romantic elements which can occur. However there are romantic comedies that can target the audience of ages 15 and above, like our product, because of the emphasis upon the comical side of the genre, it doesnt have to be so sensitive and restricting. The romantic element of the genre isnt strong however can be inferred in more detail than a film targeted at a younger audience. Therefore I feel that the certification of a 15 relates well to the genre of our product and to the narrative of our product itself.
