INTRODUCTION
The 2010 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XIX Commonwealth Games, were held in Delhi, India, from 3 to 14 October 2010. A total of 6,081 athletes from 71 Commonwealth nations and dependencies competed in 21 sports and 272 events, making it the largest Commonwealth Games to date.
The initial total budget estimated by the Indian Olympic Association in 2003 for hosting the Games was 1,620 crore (US$294.84 million).
In 2010, however, the official total budget soon escalated to an estimated 11,500 crore (US$2.09 billion), a figure which excluded non-sports-related infrastructure development. Business Today magazine estimated that the Games cost 60,000 crore (US$10.92 billion).
The opening ceremony featured over 8,000 performers, and lasted for two-and-a-half hours. It is estimated that 350 crores (US$77 million) were spent to produce the ceremony. The 2010 Commonwealth Games are reportedly the most expensive Commonwealth Games ever.

Organizers bought $80 rolls of toilet paper, $61 soap dispensers and $125 first-aid kits. This in a country where the World Bank says 828 million people live on less than $2 a day. The reason they said is, if youre going to be hosting thousands of foreigners in a city where spicy Methi Matar Malai is the regional specialty, toilet paper is one commodity you dont want to skimp on.
Organizers spent $220 on mirrors costing $98 retail $61 on soap dispensers costing $1.97 $250,190 on high-altitude simulators costing $11,830
