Role Of Finishing Schools Begin

India produces nearly 4 lakh engineers a year. NASSCOM found only one in four engineering graduates to be employable. The rest were deficient in the required technical skills, fluency in English, ability to work in a team or deliver basic oral presentations.

Acc. to Nasscom-Mc Kinsey Report 2005 the Indian Industry will demand for 8.5 lakhs IT professionals & 1.4 million ITES-BPO professionals by 2010.

RELEVANCE OF FINISHING SCHOOLS FOR 21ST CENTURY GRADUATE ENGINEERS

NASSCOM has taken the employment pyramid approach to better understand the industrys skills requirement and create specific education and development initiatives basis that approach;

Steps to goal

35 steps by government

30 steps by graduates

Models of recruitment followed by IT companies

Model I: The placed candidates are provided training for three to six months. A traditional model, having a huge drain on the system especially training infrastructure. Model II: The IT company selects candidates based on a rigorous technical test, normally conducted after the induction programme. The IT company pays the training organization a facilitation fee for every candidate who gets selected.

Models of recruitment followed by IT companies

Model III: The IT company selects from the referred resources & the selected few are put in an induction programme where the candidates pay a nominal fee.

Model IV: The training organizations train the candidates and provide them to IT companies on a Contract basis. This model is popular with many captive IT companies who do not want their employee numbers to swell.

Finishing School at RGPV

The viable solution for the void between the skills of present day graduates and requirements of the companies , RGPV has initiated a new finishing school named SHINING SCHOOL. It trains the students during the four year graduation period making them suitable to work in the corporate culture. Impetus has been given for the development of finishing school because the greatest challenge for employment in 21st century would be to improve knowledge & workers productivity. Citing this challenge RGPV has taken a positive step in building the personality of M.P.s graduates.

Shining school aims at

Improving the communication skills and technical skills Development the personality of students of RGTU. Create more opportunities in today's scenario of market recession. Increase the adaptability of students in interpersonal skills.

Three main agendas of shining school are

Core skills : communication, numeracy, working with others, problem solving

Soft skills : customer care, oral presentation skills, planning and organizing skills

Personal qualities : punctuality, selfpresentations , reliability, enthusiasm, willingness to learn.

LADDER TO SUCCESS

Conclusion
Quality matters not the quantity.
Study by Harvard University:-85% of jobs & promotions bcoz of the candidates attitude & only 15% due to facts and figures an engg. have. If a=1 b=2...........................z=26, then
KNOWLEDGE = 96%

HARDWORK = 98%

ATTITUDE = 100%
Knowledge Superpower = Finishing school + focus on practical knowledge + industry interface.
