The Most Common
Barrier To
“Pressing Into
God”
Not
Knowing
What is God
like?
I think God is like …
- Will lead to
idolatry!
God has revealed
Himself
in the Bible
- Will to be …
inspire
God is who the
Bible (in its
totality)
reveals Him to
We will experience
God more completely
and satisfactorily, as
we learn who the Bible
teaches God to be,
more fully.
The Bible Reveals
God’s Attributes As …
1. Original
2. Essential
3. Infinite
4. Immutable
The Bible Reveals
God To Be …
1. All Good
2. All Powerful
3. All Wise
4. Eternal
1. He is originally powerful:
Powerful in Himself, which nothing
else is.
2. He is essentially powerful:
Not only powerful, but He is power
itself.
3. He is infinitely powerful:
There is no measure to His power.
4. He is immutably powerful:
There was never a time when God
was more or less powerful. He
doesn’t change.
God
is
Holy
Isaiah 6:3
And one called to
another and said:
"Holy, holy, holy is
the LORD of hosts; the
whole earth is full of
his glory!"
Revelation 4:8
Each of the four living
creatures had six wings and
was covered with eyes all
around, even under his wings.
Day and night they never stop
saying: "Holy, holy, holy is
the Lord God Almighty, who
was, and is, and is to come."
Holiness
• The loftiness, exaltedness,
and splendor of God.
• The absolute purity of His
goodness. God is untouched
and unstained by evil. He is
perfectly pure and complete in
His character.
Holiness
• It is an uncompromising
purity.

• He is separate from His

creation. Distinct from all else
in the universe.
Holiness
• God’s holiness is original.
It begins with Him.
• He is essentially holy.
It is His nature.
• He is infinitely holy.
You can’t measure His holiness.
• He is immutably holy.
He has never been more or less.
Luke 1:35
The angel replied, “The Holy
Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most
High will overshadow you.
So the baby to be born
will be holy, and he will be
called the Son of God.
1 Peter 1:15-16
But now you must be holy in
everything you do, just as
God who chose you is
holy. For the Scriptures say,
“You must be holy because
I am holy.”
Ephesians 5:27
He did this to present her to
himself as a glorious church
without a spot or wrinkle or
any other blemish. Instead,
she will be holy and without
fault.
1 Thessalonians 4:3
God’s will is for you to be
holy, so stay away from all
sexual sin.
How can we be
Holy?
Not as holy as God,
but holy like God.
You are Holy when

1. You are set apart.

You dedicate
yourself to God’s
purposes.
You are Holy when

2. Your are obedient.

You make a
decision to do the
“right” thing.
Our Holiness is …
1. Positional

We are holy when

we are in Christ.
Ephesians 1:4
Even before he made the
world, God loved us and
chose us in Christ to be holy
and without fault in his eyes.
Our Holiness is …
2. Behavioral

When we choose
the “right” thing to
do.
Holiness of
Character
When we make
more “right”
choices than
“wrong” choices.
Our Holiness is …
Not a place to be
reached …

… but the direction

of our lives, in
Christ.
