Advanced Placement or College in High School?

Advanced Placement (AP)

College in High School (CHS)

The College Boards Advanced Placement courses are collegelevel classes in a wide variety of subjects that you can take while still in high school. They offer you challenging course work and a taste of what college classes are like. Teachers and curriculum must be certified and approved by AP

CHS classes are in partnership with local universities and allow students to not only have a taste of challenging coursework but to participate in an actual college curriculum in a variety of subjects that will be reflected on a college transcript earned while in high school. Teachers and curriculum must meet the standards of the partnering institution.

Advanced Placement

The North Hills School District strongly believes that success in AP programs leads to success in college. We wish to maximize all student opportunities for earning college credit and AP Scholar awards. To support these efforts, all students enrolled in the AP courses are required to take the AP exam for the subjects they are enrolled in. This is a course requirement. To further support this program, the school district absorbs the test fee for each test and manages the registration process for all students for the exams.

Some real pluses!

Research

shows that AP students are more likely to graduate from college in four years. On average only 27% of students in U.S. public colleges achieve this.

More than 90% of four-year colleges in the U.S. and colleges in more than 60 other countries give students credit, advanced placement or both on the basis of AP Exam scores.

College in High School

The CHS program enables NH teachers to work with local universities in a partnership to provide actual college curriculum Students can enroll and earn a grade on a college transcript while in high school In many cases, students may transfer these credits to other post-secondary schools Fees average about $200 for up to 4 credits!

Good to know!

Thanks to CHS options, many students arrive on college campuses with not only more confidence that they can handle college coursework, but a number of college credits, as well.

An average college freshman takes 15 credits a semester. Taking 3 CHS classes over your high school career can get you an entire semester ahead of the game!

Earning AP or CHS credits really pays off.
