technical knowledge & skills for a
definite purpose

 There are mainly two methods:


 Lecture method
 Conference method
Lecture method

 It is an off-the job training method


 It is an old and direct method of
training used by most of the
organizations
 It covers large no. of trainees in a
short period of time

 Inability to identify and correct
misunderstandings

 Less expensive

 Can be reached large number of people


at once

 Knowledge building exercise

 Less effective because lectures require


long periods of trainee inactivity

the Lecture method effective
in an organization
 To make participants aware /know its
rules, regulations and procedures
 To improve human skill & conceptual skills
 To develop communication skill,
negotiating skill & presenting skills
 To change attitudes of trainees
Merits

 Covers a large crowd


 Reduces the cost per trainee
 Gives an introduction & overview of
the subject
 It is simple & efficient and through it
materials are provided.
Disadvantages

 One way communication


 Lack of interaction
 Boring
 Time bounded.
Lecture method

 Lecture method includes:

Talk
Discussion
Feedback
Talk

 Formal lecture for a small group ,not


more than 20 nos.

 In this ,it is more interactive & more


learning is retained
Discussion
 Get the audience to participate actively
in learning
 Give people an opportunity of learning
from the experience of others
 Help people to gain understanding of
other’s point of view

 Suggestions are got by the trainers

 It is an off the job technique.

 The conference method is a directed


discussion on a specific topic.

 It is a formal meeting, conducted in


accordance with an organized plan.
 It lays emphasis on small group discussions and
on the active participation of the members
involved.

 They have a large degree of verbal interaction


with the discussion leader and with one another

 This method is useful for teaching and exploring


difficult conceptual material
 It provides much opportunity for feedback,
reinforcement practice and motivation

• In this method the topic for discussion are


decided before hand

 Trainees learn through active participation


This method includes

 Selection of topics
 Identification of participants/trainees
 Structuring time to enable participant to
discuss
 Ensuring active participation of all trainees
 Arriving at a conclusion of issues discussed
It helps trainees to:

 Improve communication skills

 Develop idea, understanding concepts on topic


discussed

 Develop conceptual skills as they get to know view


points of experts in the field

 Change/mould their behavioral activities


Limitations:

 Time allotted to each participant is short hence


participants do not get opportunity to express
the view point
 Large number of participants may make
conference a mess
 Topic selected for discussion are irreverent and
do not have link to job find interest to
participants.
