This presentation will discuss ENET English-
Estonian dictionary and will offer the general
overview of the dictionary and also discuss the
features of ENET dictionary.

Based on Eesti Keele Instituut database
Contains 96866 English and 99622 Estonian
words, overall 154017 word pairs.

Lexical elements
Spaced words like jet set, go over, e.k maha
tegema etc
Acronyms (NATO, EU), abbreviations (doc)
Prefixes (unable), suffixes (gladly), combining
forms (miniskirt, photography)
Some idiomatic expressions (let the cat out of the
bag, bag of bones) but no similes
feminine names of professions- input language
has to make the distinction (actor- actress, king-
queen etc)

Lexical elements
Some restricted language- vulgar, crude etc.
No fixed order of coordinates like safe and
sound, Tom, Dick and Harry

Non-lexical elements
No origin of words, etymology or date of the
first occurence of the word
No illustrations, maps or diagrams
Pronounciation (paid version)
No grammar included with the dictionary

Features
No wildcards */?, but includes the search
word and gives out many possibilities- cat ->
Cathay, advocate, application
Possibility to delete, modify and add new
meanings to the word

Pros and cons
No word class distincton
Sometimes tends to crash
Does not work properly with Windows 8, but
with Windows 7 it works just fine
Does not include synonyms etc
Possibility to add new words- good or bad?

But the dictionary is very easy to use and very
fast
It is small- does not take too much space on
the screen
It keeps some searches in memory
